He wasn't alone. I remember all too well their arguments. Only Pluto's size was generally correct, pretty much everything else was wrong. The argument was that it was nothing more than a large featureless asteroid that got caught in orbit. They said the surface would be dead, nothing to see except some ancient impact craters. I could go on and on, but we know by now just how very wrong the "settles science" was.
Notice how they aren't backtracking but rather ignoring the new data? Kind of how their theories and models on Global Warming keep get proven laughably wrong, but they never backtrack.
