The Catlin Arctic Survey, the first Polar expedition to monitor the affects of global warming on sea ice, was unable to measure the ice with their high tech equipment because of the freezing conditions. They had to be rescued because of extreme weather, with temperatures dropping below -40 degrees Celsius.

However, In this version of the story they returned early "for safety" because they feared an eary ice melt and ice cap break up
amid treacherous snow conditions and temperatures dropping below minus 70 degrees Celsius (minus 94 degrees Fahrenheit) with a wind chill.

Temperature of -70 degs C and the Arctic ice is getting thinner due to global warming?!?!?!?!
