What the heck is going on here? There is a Footloose remake. That in and of itself is a bit of an eye roller, not my kind of movie to begin with. But now as with most other remakes, the main male characters must be the biggest feminine looking pretty boy possible?

Ok, so Kevin Bacon was a bit of a pretty boy for the time, but he looks like a damn mountain man compared to the recast actor.

Why does Hollywood want us all to be pussified :?:

Oh shut up and go watch a Vin Diesel movie!

But seriously, I don't get your point. This is a movie about dancing and romance. I never saw the original and don't plan to see any remakes of it either. I'm willing to bet the target audience is NOT dudes. You're starting to sound like those chicks that complain porn stars are all fake and don't represent the realities of sex. Like duh! But who wants to watch fat ugly chicks that won't take it up the pooper?

Point well taken, but explain to me something. How does your theory explain the Star Trek remake cast :?: Star trek 90210 as Wayne put it. Do you expect to go to a Star Trek movie to see a bunch of pretty boys? It seems the ONLY image Hollywood wants to show is feminine pretty boys.

-edit-
Oh yeah, Pitch Black was actually a pretty good movie :p

Hollywood pushes what sells. As for Star Trek, can't say as I haven't seen it although I haven't heard complaints from those who have. Interestingly, my sister who has NEVER cared for Star Trek tells me she wants to see it. So it seems Hollywood is doing something right, assuming their goal is to broaden the appeal of certain movies that would otherwise appeal only to the hardcore geeks.

If anything, it's a cultural change going on. Women are less likely to put up with over weight men who don't put any effort into their looks these days. I noticed guys at the gym shave their chest and legs. Heck, I own around 10 pairs of shoes, some of which look similar! But I'm not sure that's pussification really, whatever that means. Guys are just putting more effort into impressing girls I think. Personally, I'm tired of the stereotype that all guys are slobs, and if you're not you must be gay. So maybe it's time to wear shoes that aren't designed for long distance running and darn it, trim those arm pits for once. :)

EDIT:
Come to think of it, the original Kirk, William Shatner, wasn't exactly ugly or thuggish in any way. And perhaps you're simply forgetting the tight, form fitting uniforms they wore. If you think about it, all those bright pastel colored uniforms were kinda gay all along. :)

If you're truly upset that the crappy Footloose might be made worse you were pussified before Hollwood even started...

You completely missed my point, did you read my post or you just joshing?

Who cares about Hollywood anyway, especially nowadays? As if the "been there done that" oeuvre wasn't bad enough, they now begin to make remakes! How pish poor can multimillion (billion?) dollar companies be?
