| Wayne wrote: | | "Not every man is an enemy on every subject". | I wasn't exactly surprised about this reaction in the middle east. Still I dispise the utter hypocracy of this, killing is ok while it's condemned with bold capitals in their books, while vague hints of homophobia in their books is being made a very big issue.
But mostly it's the discussion it made in my own country, believed to be one of the most tolerant country, that suprised me most unpleasantly.
Often ppl implicate here that extravagant = pervertuous (why can't these ppl do normal? with gay parades they will never be accepted!)
It's the 'normal' thing, that sneaks into little social dictatorships I think, das gesundenes volksempfinden. Okay, I'm 'normal' (well, colourfull normal that is), and the extravagant thing is not my thing, but what's so free about ppl demanding others to be 'normal'? Also, the hypocracy of drooling when a woman wears a string and the cursing when a man wears a string is something where I put my question remarks. Or the reactions at two kissing women compared to two kissing men... And it's most in the west. As I have not yet a relationship, I did not have any probs with it, but I heard many have, and are even physically being abused when one just kissed his friend.
Don't get me wrong, btw. It's not criticism towards any of you guys, it's more like a 'what has to become of the world' rant, a rant about this phenomenon . |

| That guy I had something with, yknow, when I was kinda uncertain, he's catholic...
so I guess it's not specifically a religion thing, it's more an male-ego/'decency'-dogma problem (how do I translate 'haantjesgedrag' into English?) |

Slightly off topic...
At the risk of sounding homophobic, can I ask why people of any particular sexual persuasion feel the need to have such parades in the first place?
What is the motivating factor behind them? To raise awareness? Awareness of what? That there are gay people? Of course there are and there always have been. Everybody knows that.
If someone is gay, fair enough, that's entirely their own buisness. If someone is comfortable with their sexual orientation, what is the need to march through the streets and show off about it? They may exist for all I know, but I've never seen any equivalent "straight parades"
Given that I clearly don't really understand whole parade thing anyway, as for organising a Jerusalem parade, why?
I would have thought it abundently clear that a region linked to three of the world's least-accepting-of-homosexuality religions and renowned for its current tension and violence in general would be the *last* place to go and march.
If something terrible happens can those responsible really play the victim? That's like walking into a pub full of man city supporters in a man united top just after they got thrashed (as usual) and strutting up and down with your red pride, then wondering why you wake up in casualty.
I don't get this mentality. _________________ paj = pajers ? pajers : (pajers ? pajers : (pajers ? pajers : (pajers ? pajers : aaaahPajers))); |

Why should extravagant ppl be silent, and the religions so EXTREMELY loudmouthed (I mean, over there)? Should things be like the decency of the most violent?
If one's protesting, is it HIS or HER fault that he/she gets gunned down? Was it Martin Luther Kings own fault?
I think this protest (because it's a protest) is exactly at the place where it belongs: at places where there's still that hatred. In Amsterdam it isn't a protest anymore, it's a party (and you'll see more straight than gay ppl then)
And yes, I HAVE seen plenty of straight parades, our whole culture is completely a straight parade. And you aren't even aware of that :-/.
And btw. there's also the love parade (wich I MUCH prefer)

The answer to that is a matter of perspective and "who you ask". I've heard gays describe it as "a celebration our our independence". My take on it is usually that it's just a "let's intentionally piss people off just because we can by putting our sexuality in their face whether they like it or not".

Wayne | I think your perception is heavily coloured by your culture.
Plus, ppl WANT to get pissed off. I think you WANT to get pissed off (because of stressfull other things, probably).
I got a few 100% straight friends who are eager to drag me by my hairs to such a gay parade (they went to it more than once), but I know I will feel uneasy then. Guess I have to get over that and just have a party - a few beers 'll help-. |

Culture or not, dunno. I'm not gay nor have I ever been inclined in that direction, but I always figured whatever anyone else does is none of my business whatsoever. However, when you put it all out in public, you're kinda rubbing the nose of everyone who supports your right to be whatever you want.
In regards to gay pride parades themselves, they ARE fun to watch, as everyone goes a little nuts. It's kinda like a confused mardi gras without the peepshow or excessive booze.

| Hum, everything out? (also, that's not according the law, methinks)
Or just males in string?
In the latter case I'd say as argument that almost on every corner of the street there are billboards with women just wearing an ultra small bikini, or such things alike. Also, on every event and/or tvshow or such things there are women in small bikini's, and finally there's a man in string and suddenly, men are angry :-/.... |

Come on Speel, you are far to bright to try that approach,
If you mean normal everyday life is a protest/party/celebration/define as appropriate of heterosexuality you must be living in one unusual place. I have never in my entire life a street carnival full of "extravagant" heterosexuals celebrating their heterosexuality.
I see just ordinary people going about their ordinary buisness. _________________ paj = pajers ? pajers : (pajers ? pajers : (pajers ? pajers : (pajers ? pajers : aaaahPajers))); |

No I mean every event with cheerleaders or bikini-gals. Why would they actually exist else than celebrate a dominant male's heterosexuality?
Plus what I mentioned above?

I've never seen cheerleaders wandering down our street, either :-/
Furthermore, if you are going to take that approach in regard to the original topic, I think you'll find the conservative religious dudes would be equally against any parade promoting any sexual view at all. _________________ paj = pajers ? pajers : (pajers ? pajers : (pajers ? pajers : (pajers ? pajers : aaaahPajers))); |

And that's why I stated this:
| Quote: | | Should things be like the decency of the most violent? |
And so, ppl, I think every sexuality should have it's parade (because I am not against cheerleaders and so, just against the hypocracy of 'eeew men - yum women'), and rather in one parade than in seperate, JUST like the love parade |
