My First Obama Book (or anything political in a long time)

Thank you Bernard Goldberg:

The Media's Love for Obama

It won't change anything but at least someone in the industry finally "gets it".

I'm so glad I pay no attention to the media.

Thing is ... the media really wasn't that keen on him. Fox lambasted him quite unrelentingly - but all of the networks and newspapers gave McCain what was pretty much a free ride. There should be much more scrutiny of all the candidates and much more in depth questioning in debates, the whole US "Who Wants to be the Prez!" show is a total joke anyway, but because Obama can speak in whole sentences and has presence, he just makes making TV easier. It's kind of "reality tv" - he makes content so the networks don't have to. Is that unfair? What the heck was Palin for? To get on TV and get a buzz. All part of the game apparently except Palin was a moron and Obama wasn't and slightly more than half of the electorate aren't morons either. Just how it works out.

Personally, I already stated this, I'd have rather seen a Ron Paul / Dennis Kucinich race. They are the only two guys who were talking about anything important - but important doesn't sell advertising minutes. Oh well.

Look who's talking about sucking it up! Not everyone will give the liberal media's bias a pass, some of us don't like propaganda.

Deal with it.

To be fair, with guys like Murdoch running the show it can't be anything but 'liberal'.

Aherm....

What I want to know is when are we supposed to start calling those complaining about Obama anti-American? I've been getting called that for eight years. Now the shoe's on the other foot.

Can't argue with that. Kucinich was the only one I consistently agreed with. I didn't agree with a lot of what Paul said but he at least came across as having integrity.

You're right, I don't. One day you may feel the same way too but first you'll have to learn that just because you agree with it, or just because it makes you feel good or makes you feel special ... doesn't make a thing true.

I discovered an interesting site - politifact. that page has details about Ron Paul. notice even the "false" statement is not really false, it's just that they have very stringent standards (how unusual).

anyway, I've seen so many great comments by Ron Paul I can't help but feel honored he's a fellow American.

you can keep track of Obama's promises on his Obameter

I can't say I'm displeased

Murdoch is a creepy corporation that has steamrolled over the 4th Estate.

while people like to fling stupid words around calling each other names (not you), this sinister interloper is stealing people's souls.

why???

what the hell is wrong with people??

can't they see they are being used? (to make this guy rich)

Personally, I think the idea that the media got Obama elected is BS. First of all, if the media was that powerful, it would be President Clinton right now. But even before that, it would have been President Gore. Every time the Democrats succeed it's because of the liberal media, but what's the reasoning when the Democrats fail? It seems to be conservatives like to lay the blame for their shortcomings where ever it's most convenient, often ignoring the true reasons. Fact is there were plenty of problems with the Republican way of doing things, own up to them and fix your party. It's time to get a clue!

But more importantly, there is much cause for concern when it comes to the US media in general:
United States - Annual report 2006
The imprisonment of reporter Judith Miller was an unprecedented setback for press freedom in the Unite States and a milestone in the long legal battle to protect the privacy of journalistic sources. Two measures ensuring such protection at federal level are awaiting consideration by Congress.

And how good is it when the president considers those who question his poor judgment as suspicious?

North Korea, Turkmenistan, Eritrea the worst violators of press freedom
The United States (53rd) has fallen nine places since last year, after being in 17th position in the first year of the Index, in 2002. Relations between the media and the Bush administration sharply deteriorated after the president used the pretext of “national security” to regard as suspicious any journalist who questioned his “war on terrorism.” The zeal of federal courts which, unlike those in 33 US states, refuse to recognise the media’s right not to reveal its sources, even threatens journalists whose investigations have no connection at all with terrorism.

Freelance journalist and blogger Josh Wolf was imprisoned when he refused to hand over his video archives. Sudanese cameraman Sami al-Haj, who works for the pan-Arab broadcaster Al-Jazeera, has been held without trial since June 2002 at the US military base at Guantanamo, and Associated Press photographer Bilal Hussein has been held by US authorities in Iraq since April this year.

All that, plus US news is geared mostly for entertainment value. They love to stir up controversy on certain hot topics and pretty much ignore everything else. That's why I watch/read Canadian news, BBC and other international media.
