I had to look up ReRun actor's age at the time this aired. He played a teenager on What's Happening which started the same year as this commercial. He would have been 25 playing a high school teenager.

Apparently this look and was used by their dance group prior to ReRun on the show.

I was today years old when I learned Malt Liquor is something that looks like beer. Is it just beer? I've heard the term many times over the years but never given it much thought as it's not used in the UK. I'd always just assumed it was some kind of US spirit like Bourbon or something.

Anyway, for ads that haven't aged well, the old Robertson's Jam Gollywog was a prominently advertised feature of my childhood. Here he is advertising their marmalade in 1983:

I'm sure there is probably some small difference, but basically yes it's just beer usually with a higher alcohol content than standard pale US brews. They were pretty big in the 70s and 80s in the black communities. For some reason it was seemingly advertised directly to those communities. Here's none other than the OG Lando Calrissian, Billy Dee Williams, himself advertising it.

Haha! Not the worst I've seen, but yeah not aged well.

These are just funny to me, I love them.

There's actually a whole lot more of them like this you can easily find on Youtube. In case you are wondering, YES that's basically an early Kermit The Frog prototype. The humor works for me, despite being joke threats and some actual violence. There's another campaign that did similar (not Jim Henson) that was just flat and flopped. I'll post that some time.

Ok, these barely qualify for the "funny" part. I am posting because I wonder if Robert has ever seen them. I'm guessing these chains and commercials were specific to the US when they came out. There were so many of these in the 70s and 80s.

I've never seen those adverts, although I have been in a Wendy's in Toronto and am vaguely familiar with the Taco Viva brand,
