100 years ago today, the worst war in the history of the world ended.

The match I was at on Sunday. Around 12,000 supporters involved in the card display in that stand.

My Great Grand Uncle Louis, went to Fort Riley to be inducted into the Army in 1918. He was sent home 2 weeks later with the Spanish Influenza and died. Fort Riley was where the Spanish Influenza was first identified.

This is becoming an interesting thread. Sadly my knowledge of family history on both sides is quite limited for a few reasons, some I won't publish online. I only barely know my grandfather on my father's side. He died when I was 4. He was the age to be drafted in WWII, but was of poor health having only one leg. My father was in the Navy during Vietnam, but he was never sent into active battle. I guess the Navy was not a big factor in that war.

-bonus trivia-
My paternal grandfather was missing a leg on one side, my maternal step-grandfather was missing a leg on the other side. From what I've been told the few times they met, they'd joke about having a good set of legs between them.

Louis was the only one in the family who died in the Spanish Influenza, Since they were one of the families that were not sick they would go around the neighborhood (farming community, houses 1/2 mile apart) and leave soup at the door. Only at night, no one went anywhere during the day because that is when everyone thought the influenza was spread. If someone died at the house they would back the wagon up to the window, the body was passed through the window, they then took the body to the church cemetery and buried them, there were no services held. there were entire families that died. My grandfather was age 9, at the time

Your grandfather was a doughboy? Did he survive the war?
he wasn't American. He was born in Brussels and after the Germans of the day invaded his country he joined the French 8th Regiment de Ligne

when I did a search this is what I found:

After the war was over he and my Grandmother married, he started his career, had children and eventually came to the US. They became naturalized citizens.

Which one is he?

he's all the way on the right in the middle. Here's a better photo:
