Homeless man who helped deputy wants nothing for himself

In surveillance video, a robbery suspect seems about to get the best of Broward Sheriff's Deputy Kevin Meyer when three homeless men, including James Finch, help subdue the suspect during a violent arrest at aMcDonald'srestaurant.

During the March 3 brawl, Finch grabs the suspect's leg and doesn't let go. Though he's shy about discussing his life, Finch hopes that when people learn of his actions, they will be more understanding toward those whose circumstances are dire.

"For a whole lot of folks like myself, this is temporary," Finch, 58, said in a phone interview. "The hard shell is a defense mechanism."

Meyer, who was lifted by the suspect and thrown to the ground, was also aided by Jose Ramos and Carmello Maldonade, BSO said.

"None of those men were obligated to do anything," BSO spokesman Jim Leljedal said. "And we're glad they did."

kinda surprised newt hasnt latched on to this campaign moment... obviously what needs to happen next is that the cops should be fired and replaced by bums... we could hire thrice as many at half the cost for sure... (no hobo union)... and theyd have more pride in the community... if its a good idea for school children... why not homeless folks? ;)

No no. Can't be. We know that homeless people are useless leeches who do nothing but sit around sucking the blood from society. They are homeless because they are morally so corrupt that homelessness is what they want and what they deserve. Filthy bums.

Whilst I know that the above is sarcastic, whilst I was on the streets I encountered this attitude in a few times said to me with conviction.

It's kinda saddening that such views still exist and people are confident enough within themselves and society to voice such without fear of sanction.

Now now Fluffy, that isn't becoming of you.

But seriously, trying to imply conservatives aren't compassionate is very disingenuous. You should know better than to parrot this pop culture nonsense.

He's hooked on the blue pill, he doesn't care about reality. By the time he realizes he as his fellow blue pill addicts have been had, it will be far too late. Kinda reminds me of the old Golden Earring classic:

Homelessness and unemployment are frightening to people and 1) they fear contagion 2) they deal with this by separating from the less fortunate by trying to draw distinctions. "That can't happen to me", the reassure themselves, "because I am different from that person".

People of the same situation are less likely to do this and are more likely to help each other.

Sounds like gibberish. Perhaps you could dispel that impression by explaining - and I don't mean explaining the pop culture references - what is the actual position you are espousing and what are your assumptions?
