HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – A woman opened fire during a biology faculty meeting at the University of Alabama's Huntsville campus Friday, killing three people and injuring three others, officials said. The shooter was caught outside the Shelby Center, a science building, without incident, according to university spokesman Ray Garner. Local media reported the shooter was a faculty member, though Garner said he could not identify her. A man was also being detained.

All three of those killed and two of the injured were faculty members. The third injured person was a staff member. No students were involved in the shooting.

Huntsville Hospital spokesman Burr Ingram said two of the injured were in critical condition and the third was in stable condition.

My credit union is across the street and Wayne is about ~2 miles from the campus... Yeesh...

To the Huntsville crew, hope you and your loved ones are all safe. Scary stuff. A little too close to home.

apparently she also killed her brother 24 years ago.

weirdo

Everyone here (that Lee and I know) are fine, but thanks for the concern. I'm kinda tuning it out because it's being so overplayed here in the search for ratings now.

Just waiting on the inevitable backlash and cries for gun control to start now.

Amy Bishop and her husband, James Anderson, were questioned after a package containing two bombs was sent to the Newton home of Dr. Paul Rosenberg, a professor and doctor at Boston's Children's Hospital in 1993. Bishop surfaced as a suspect because she was allegedly concerned that she was going to receive a negative evaluation from Rosenberg on her doctorate work.

and there is a connection to Congressman William Delahunt (D) MA. The District Attorney's office made the decision not to file charges in her brothers death in 1986. The District Attorney was William Delahunt, who has been a member of Congress since 1996. The records from the case have been missing since at least 1987.

Now Delahunt is not running for re-election

connect .... the .... dots ....

I dunno - sounds like a conspiracy theory to me. You'd have to be nuts, of course, to believe such things.

As Wayne already pointed out, the gang is fine but thanks for the concern Mike.

The (arrested) professor is apparently a loon. She has apparently "snapped" in the past (shooting her brother) and did so again, based on commentary offered by one of the released (from hospital) survivors from the conference room. Students report she was fine in the AM, laughing and joking with them and then she "lost it" during the staff meeting. More will come out in the hearing (pre-trial) but the only question remains life in prison (or mental institution) or death penalty (DA has filed capital murder charge so is eligible for death penalty). Aside from the sheer horror and tragedy of the situation, I am curious to learn about the weapon used. So far all that has been reported (tentatively) is that it was a 9mm found in a restroom one floor below the conference room where the shooting took place.

Here's hoping the remaining two UAH staff in the hospital recover (both still critical) and the families of the three deceased can recover as well.

Well, it is a tragedy for sure, and I'm glad no one here seems to have been personally affected by it.
Every life lost to this is just as senseless, stupid, and tragic as another. I don't understand why the media always makes such a coverage of certain shootings and not others, though. And is any of it really "news" anyhow? It's just another stupid, senseless tragedy. One that probably could have been prevented had we had a sane justice system. (She had already previously shot her brother, though that was apparently ruled as an "accident" somehow?)

I guess it's kind of on my mind because I basically shrugged off a fatal shooting at the bar just down the street from me. It didn't even rate a complete story. Just a couple sentences saying why the bar was closed. :P

Possible Headlines ;)

"Alabama Shooter – The Cambridge Connection”
“Biology Profs – The New Menace”
“Tenure – It Only Was A Matter of Time”
"Well-regarded professor, Harvard-educated neuroscientist has mental breakdown after living in Alabama."

Harvard graduate, liberal Obama maniac killer Amy Bishop sentenced to life in prison

"The jury deliberated for about 20 minutes before convicting Amy Bishop."

"Bishop killed her boss, biology department chairman Gopi Padila, plus professors Maria Ragland Davis and Adriel Johnson. Associate professor Joseph Leahy, staff aide Stephanie Monticciolo and assistant professor Luis Cruz-Vera were shot and wounded."

"police believe Bishop opened fire during the faculty meeting because she was angry over being denied tenure, which effectively ended her career at the University of Alabama in Huntsville"

It is now suspected that she also shot her 18 year old brother to death with a shotgun in 1986 and was responsible for the attempted bombing of a Harvard professor in 1993.

A family source said Bishop, a mother of four children - the youngest a third-grade boy - was a far-left political extremist who was “obsessed” with President Obama to the point of being off-putting.

rate my professor: Amy Bishop

Apparently, she is also a rabid socialist.

Of course, if guns weren't available she would have found another way of killing the people at that meeting. It must have been God's will that those people that died, died - only those who deserve tragedy get it. The rest were saved by a miracle because the gun jammed. Without a working gun she was unable to continue killing. God be praised.

Parse that.

So your going with the "Well-regarded professor, Harvard-educated neuroscientist has mental breakdown after living in Alabama." trope

You got it all wrong Fluffy. The only correct conclusion you can draw here is that this is the fault of all those who voted for Obama, and the only way for them to redeem themselves is to vote for Romney. See this would never have happened if it weren't for Obama.

This would have never happened if not for Harvard ...
