In the book’s opening pages, it is written that “it might be necessary to restrain her with strength or even to threaten her.”
Later, its author advises that “the husband should treat the wife with kindness and love, even if she tends to be stupid and slow sometimes.”
Page 45 contains the rights of the husband, which include his wife’s inability to leave “his house without his permission,” and that his wife must “fulfil his desires” and “not allow herself to be untidy ... but should beautify herself for him ... ”
In terms of physical punishment, the book advises that a husband may scold her, “beat by hand or stick,” withhold money from her or “pull (her) by the ears,” but should “refrain from beating her excessively.”

How is this any different from what fundie xtians have been advocating for, for as long as they've been around?

Precisely - and you wouldn't have to go back too many years to see that these sort of attitudes were common in the Xtian West too.

LOL, changing the topic is the best you can do? Go start a different thread if you want to bash Christians, this is about Islam treatment, under their laws, of woman. Typical progressive, willing to throw a minority (Muslim woman) under the bus to save face of a political ally.

Typical Islamophobe, oblivious to what's happening in his own country whilst pointing fervently at "the enemy". Wake up Dammy, your own country is kerb stomping on women's rights in a manner not seen since Christianity's introduction to Europe around 1700 years ago.

Newsflash: Such attitudes amongst the Muslim population are increasingly being viewed as backward within them, with each new generation the offspring of immigrants look more toward their host countries rather than the countries of their parents birth.

Of course, you'd have to have actually met and known actual Muslims to find that out.

3000 years is but a couple of hundred isn't. It is within living memory that women got the vote in some western countries. 1919 in the US, 1921 or so in Canada, 1944 in France - and mostly as these countries became more secular. In Vatican City women can't vote and no woman can be a cardinal so no woman can vote for the pope. In orthodox Judaism women can't vote in synagogue business. It's still OK to have forced non-consensual sex with your wife in many religious (Christian and other) western jurisdictions under the theory that property cannot consent nor withhold consent. The marital exemption for rape was only removed in the UK in 1991. In the US many states still maintain the exemption. Our attitudes towards women are relatively recent and by no means universal even where we live. There are fundamentalists of various stripes who would love to turn the clock back 100 years and if they can get a majority in the government they can get the job done.
