I regularly have a gazzillion browser tabs open and from time to time firefox goes to that great bit bucket in the sky, but that's OK because you can restore your session when you start up - so that's what I do...

and all the tabs that used to link to activistpost.com are suddenly not found. Hmm.

Well, it turns out they didn't take it down themselves - it got googled to oblivion. Now, they did repost quite a lot of stories from elsewhere so someone may have taken exception to the infringement, but they usually only posted a taste and then linked back to the original. They also generated their own content though.

Anyway, whatever the reason they went away, the clear moral of the story is don't rely on a google hosted free service because it doesn't matter how much time you may have invested building your site and readership - it can be completely deleted at any time.

Hmm, they must have had a scathing article about Obama?

Not sure why Google would bock them. Most likely someone is exploiting DMCA against them. It happens and it's a real problem. If like Fluffy says, they link to other sites, someone could use that as amo for a take down. It's a shitty system and should be replaced (or just eliminated, but that'll never happen). I think if they quote more then 60 words (or something like that) it can attract problems. I was on a forum that was "warned" about that sort of thing. Keep us posted on this one, would be curious to see how it plays out.

I think it's more of that special relationship that certain Google Board Members and Executive Officers of Google have had over the years with Bilderberg group. One thing the Elites fear most is riots, that can push things beyond their control. Take a guess who that is around 0:55 second mark during this march of the attendees at the last Bilderberg Group meeting. Question is how much and for how long will Google play with links until its out in plain sight for all to see? Oh, and I will point out it's not the GOP that Google is throwing massive support behind. ;)

Well I don't think Google is up to anything "evil", but now I see where all those silly conspiracy theories involving Google are originating from. :whack:

Didn't like the video?

It's back. Apparently - and they quote this on the site - they received a communication from google about the issue.

I'm an engineer on blogger. I'd like to apologise on behalf of the team for the removal of activistpost.com. The removal was caused by an automated process, and we restored the blog as soon as the issue was brought to our attention.

Hmm. "automated process" remains unspecified though. Lesson still stands. If you care about your content - don't rely heavily on a free blog.

July - Oct 2010 Google's money is 55% GOP. Before that it indicates 58% Dem to 42% Republican -- hardly a massive support of difference.

Goto http://www.opensecrets.org/ and do some searches. You'll find Eric Schmidt, Google CEO. Contributed $20K to the GOP in 2009 and 2010. And the same year $17,500 to Dems.

Like many big companies it would seem Google is playing both sides of the fence. Contribute just enough to either party so you can call in a couple of favors no matter who wins. In the early 2Ks Google did favor Dems. It appears things are much more equalized since 2008 and perhaps even slipping towards the GOP.

Looks like Google likes helping out activists: With a gift from Google, Canadian activists get on the map

Representatives of nearly 50 Canadian environmental advocacy groups, social justice organizations, aboriginal communities and schools are being trained in Vancouver this week to use Google Maps and Google Earth to create geographic illustrations of their messages. They overlay Google’s maps and satellite images with data from their own spreadsheets to depict such things as the location of first nations communities, caribou migrations and the spread of diseases such as AIDS.

Let's look at Obama's admin: http://news.techeye.net/business/googles-connections-to-the-federal-government-listed and Bilderberg attendee Schmidt doesn't like having his donations listed on his own search engine: http://news.techeye.net/internet/google-boss-tried-to-censor-political-donation-from-web so I can understand Google pulling back the reigns a bit on donations in a none election year as Congress has started it's investigation of Google's practices.
