Two thoughts on this. One, this is the time for eggs to start hatching so getting near nest is a very bad idea. Gators are good at hiding their nest, so people may not know there is a nest in the area. Second thought is people have to come to the realization that not only is it a criminal act to feed the damn gators, it's a VERY BAD IDEA since they are giving it a death sentence. What is keeping the peace between humans and gators is fear. Feeding the damn things reduces their fear and that is when trouble will begin. Nuisance gators are retrieved by licensed trappers. If the gator is over 4', trapper gets to keep the meat and hide ($125 or less for 8' or smaller) other wise it's released somewhere in the wild. You would be shocked to see how fast a big gator can sprint on land to catch their prey, which can be a human if they think they can take it or they perceive the human is threatening their nest.

Just up the river ( in the state park) from where I live, back in the early 80s, a young boy wearing a white t-shirt was in the water and was killed by a 12' gator. Gator probably thought it was a floating marsh-mellow., tourist love to feed the gators.

Poor lady is lucky to survive this long, hope she survives as the bacteria from the gator's mouth is difficult to treat (only one specific antibiotic will work) and that is besides her other medical issues and her losing a leg plus damage to the other leg.

Shooting a gator between the eyes won't work, their brain is further back. If you can spot it's ear slits, it's sitting between them and not forward where the eyes are.
