This is a developed country that receives billions of dollars of aid from the US every year (and don't worry - aid to Israel was specifically preserved in the debt ceiling deal) but it seems that people are feeling squeezed by economics here too.
One thing that struck me in this news item is the young woman who said that they were tired of feeling like they had to basically accept the situation for "security". Israel, in many respects, is a model for the kind of social control underway in the US - the constant feeling of outside threat from terrorists is supposed to make society rally around authoritarian rulers who then have more latitude to direct resources. The threat of Armageddon and massive financial/social destruction are similarly scary crises to beat the citizenry up with. However, even under those threats people everywhere are starting to object - even in Israel.
