cause i think actually once we get past the hatin we gonna figure out thats the kinda knowledge we really need... u could hide the servos and mechs in the wings its so vast a space... gunshots will be inneffective... gonna have to go for the actual pivotol points or blow the head off it.... all of it seems unreasonable and yet soon it will be... off retina scans they kill at times... with alarming inaccuracy... they payin 50 grand a piece for "collateral damage", which will translate to "oops" in us dollars... cripes....

i got to lookin at this and i must admit i realize how bad it would look on ur COMputer HISTORY to have clicked on a thread that said this.... so... well... thanx!

how about a slingshot and a rock. works for Bart Simpson

It takes resources to take down a drone. In principle it should be fairly straight forward since they are not armoured (flying things can't afford the weight) and their fairly tightly packed so if you can hit one you will probably hit something important. Once these things get erratic I believe the controllers are supposed to encourage them to destroy themselves. It may even be automatic on failure of telecommunications. I'm referring to military drones right now.

They tend not to be very fast but they have altitude on their side and they can get you from a decent distance. If it's you they're after then you are probably dead.

If you want to secure an area against drone incursion then you will need some sophistication - likely a fast airborne platform to chase them down and lots of ground stations to find them. It could be possible with passive stations to find the drones but they generally link up to satellites which means that the signal is going the wrong way to see from the ground. Some sort of balloon born grid might work and perhaps could even jam control signals - jamming is easier than controlling but is a big investment to make for a system that should be pretty simple to take down putting you back to square one.

Civilian drones should be much more jammable - they'll likely be some sort of spread spectrum deal but all you have to do is throw enough high powered noise at it and it'll drop out of control. Obviously such equipment will be illegal and the first time you use it you will light up your location.

Best way to fight against drones is on the ground. Drones will generally have security around them but drones in transit would probably be easier to get at. Drones in production and drone manufacturers are even softer. Once a drone is in the air it could be anywhere and it'll be hard to find but the control centers and the crews should be much easier to locate and that last asset goes home to visit family on holidays and goes out to the bar on weekends.

So long as the drones are working in a different country from the controllers the chances of someone getting at the crews is small but if the controller and drones are in the same country that's a vulnerability. I guess military drone missions in the US could be run out of Qatar.

As a citizen or individual you might get lucky if you take a pot-shot at a low flying drone that just happens to be heading by but for the most part a good counter drone capability is beyond the sophistication of most resistance groups.

1) Purchase Starstreak
2) Assemble launcher in front yard
3) Track and paint target with the optically stabilised sight
4) Fire
5) Profit
...
6) Jail.

how about a cloaking system. if they can't see ya, they can't get ya?

Use your psychic powers
Wear a tin foil hat to focus the psi beam

Beware Predators have infrared tracking devices
reset your Air conditioning to 98 degrees
replace all your light bulbs with red ones

Only voters are on the Predator tracking list .... so don't vote, then you're safe

1) Purchase Starstreak

Sure, you can buy someone else's solution (or steal it) but there again it requires considerable resources - possible sponsorship from a state or a robust narcotics industry (also often state sponsored to protect routes and production sites).

If all you have is a lot of people then it's probably better to leave the flying drones alone as a rule and keep your groups small and mingle with the civilians then all attacks will be expensive (a teacher's salary for a year for a hellfire) and either minimally effective or counter-productive (in terms of hearts and minds).

@Fluffy

In my defence, the question was how to shoot it down. The starstreak ought to be fairly effective against your average UAV (though it has never actually been used to properly gauge it's effectiveness).
