One of the questions of Climate Change is how is weather being impacted. There is a large number of variables. Computing power of these sorts of things is only now becoming available with Distributed Processing.
One way to look at this would be what are the Trends over Time Are the extreme weather events increasing in intensity and in number? When precipitation occurs are the amounts increasing? Inital research is saying yes.
Another way to look at this would be are individual large events impacted by Climate Change. In this case of Autumn 2000 Flodding in England the inital research is saying yes.
These are a couple of interesting reads. Both from what are the considerations and how much computational power are needed.
In about 2008 worldwide computing power combined had the power of about 1 human brain. If Moore's Law stays a constant we'll see 1 computer having that sort of power about a decade. In 10 years 1 computer should have the power of everything we see today combined. (Of course it'll be a Supercomputer and expensive and it'll be probably another decade until that comes to the desktop.).. Just wow!
