That would be the controversial Arizona law that penalizes those who hire illegal immigrants.

news story here.

This is something that I'm sure businesses are unhappy about because illegal immigrants are so cheap and have no real rights. While some feel that this just makes things worse for illegals because now they can't get any work, it seems to me that it simply puts the blame where it should be ... on the pimps, not the prostitutes.

Will jobs leave the state? Will owners move their businesses to Mexico where Mexicans are legal?

I know some will disagree with me, but I still maintain that we have to do something about the problem, and holding those responsible for making it enticing to hire them seems like a good start. Trouble is in the enforcement, and making it nation-wide. Arizona is a good first step, but they'll just go to Texas, California (who welcomes them with open arms), or any of the other more accommodating states.

New Mexico is the most accommodating state, then Utah

Arizona and Texas are not that accomodating

Mexican police and immigration agents have long been known to be involved in shaking down and kidnapping Central American migrants

Mexican Army rescues another 52 kidnapped Migrants in Reynosa
Mexico's independent National Human Rights Commission estimates that as many as 20,000 migrants were kidnapped in 2010.

Perhaps if Arizona implemented a minimum wage that it's native population could live on, it would solve the issue entirely.

There would be no reason to pick up immigrants simply because no cost benefit existed.

Now you're being a radical!! :)

But the fact remains that illegals are illegal so they don't actually have the rights to the minimum wage and can always be threatened with deportation (or worse, since they don't really exist).

True enough - the criminal gangs etc would still ply their trade and disreputable companies would struggle on, but those few that remained would, at least in principle be less widespread and either way would at some point be the object of investigation.

well, what some don't seem to appreciate is that if you let businesses hire cheap labor...more times than not, they will treat that labor cheaply.
I can't tell you how often I heard about some sweat shop in LA getting "busted" and the (mostly) women saved from slavery. I mean in some cases they were held in some place not allowed to leave. Kidnapped!

As some teachers/firefighters and cops in some States are finding out if you let the Boss have all the power they will treat the workers like shit.

the problem with illegal labor is that it lowers Everyone's employment status. it's just not good for anyone.
