No one likes Congress.

Just when you thought Congress couldn't reach a new low, it did.

Only a third of US voters think their Congress members have earned the right to get sent back next year -- a record-low number, a poll released yesterday shows.

Thirty-four percent of voters queried think members of the House and the Senate ought to be re-elected -- while an astonishing 63 percent were in favor of throwing the bums out, the new CNN poll showed.

That's the worst performance for Congress in the history of the network's polling -- the latest red flag for the floundering Democratic leadership as it heads into an anti-incumbent voter wave just eight months before the midterm elections.

Big surprise there, not! Middle America is livid and the liberal elite in Congress just don't get it. See what Barney Frank has to say about YOU.

"People are almost in a parallel universe," Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) said yesterday. "They are not getting a common set of facts and most of the people they talk to are those who agree with them."

Sounds like Barney knows what he's talking about - but someone else doesn't know what Barney is talking about. - which is really just an illustration and proof of what Barney is talking about thus proving him correct.

?FORMULA TOO COMPLEX ERROR
READY.

But I kinda get your drift, here. From the article:

And the electorate is unsettled all around. Forty-five percent of the voters say they will back a Democrat in their congressional district, and 47 percent say they will go for the Republican -- whoever that may be in either case.

So he understands people are disgusted, but instead of the people actually doing something noteworthy (like getting rid of BOTH Democrats and Republicans by electing independents) he knows they're just going to go back to Republicans. Disappointing, and probably correct.

Actually

I think this sums it up properly. Republican or democrat, everyone wants the BUMS out. I'd guess fresh faces will trump party affiliation this election. Will it tilt towards Republican in the process? I can't see how it won't.

Yeah, but the "fresh" faces are just as stale. Republican or Democrat doesn't matter. They're both complete rubbish.

Will it tilt towards Republican in the process? I can't see how it won't.
And that is exactly the disconnect Frank is talking about. The things people are most disgusted about are really things caused by what happened back under Republican watch. So what are the people going to do about it? Elect more Republicans. It's as disheartening as it is absurd. And I agree. I can't see how it won't happen, either. Americans are too closed-minded to do something significant like start electing Independents.

If just 25% of the positions open went to Independents, _THAT_ would send a clear and unmistakable message that the party-line politics game is up. _THAT_ would say we're ready for some REAL leadership. But, unfortunately, I expect that myself, and the other 5% or so who pay attention will be the only ones who vote for that -- a margin that is easily ignored.

Sounds like Barney has his finger on the issue. People are upset with the 'status quo'. The problem is the old status quo, Republican domination of all 3 branches of government, put us where we are today. Turning around decades of harm is not a 1 year job.

Now, just out of the Bush decade the # of jobs in this nation are about the same as 2000, prior to Bush taking office. Is the answer really voting in more Republicans to repeat this horror?

And the electorate is unsettled all around. Forty-five percent of the voters say they will back a Democrat in their congressional district, and 47 percent say they will go for the Republican -- whoever that may be in either case.
Sadly we have two parties. These #s show there really is no statistically significant change in the population. It'd be a good time for a strong 3rd and 4th party. None are to be found.

Republican leaders understand the damage the Tea Party can do to them if they establish a 3rd party. IMO the rest of the year we'll therefore see the same from the Republicans. They'll continue to not play ball and hold up Congress. I suspect a new Contract on America where they declare Taxes are still too high. (Even though the last decade proved, again, lowering taxes does not raise all boats.) Both of those should help mitagate the Tea Bag threat.
