The Democratic governor repeated his frequent complaint that he wasn't allowed to call witnesses who would have defended him against the criminal charges at the heart of the impeachment case.

Blagojevich did acknowledge that the truth of his actions might not be flattering in some cases. He referred to taped conversations played earlier in the Senate trial. The tapes appeared to show Blagojevich linking legislation to campaign contributions.

He said that's something "all of us in politics do."

Don't get me wrong..

A conviction is all but certain. Blagojevich presented no defense, and virtually the entire Illinois political establishment has turned against him. The House voted 117-1 to impeach him, and the lone "no" vote came from his sister-in-law.

No one is defending him, not even democrats. My point is..

His request shocked the Senate and lawmakers didn't know what to expect.

"Like so many others, I'm going to be on pins and needles just waiting to see what he's going to be delivering us. It could be anything," said Sen. Susan Garrett, D-Lake Forest.

Blagojevich was working past midnight Wednesday on his "passionate" speech that will explain why he decided to appear at the trial, his public relations firm Thursday. The two-term governor, a Democrat, has denied wrongdoing.

"He at least wants to have his final say," spokesman Lucio Guerrero said Thursday morning.

The governor will not testify, which involves taking an oath and answering questions from the prosecutor and senators. Instead, he has 90 minutes to deliver a closing statement.

Sounds to me like he wants to take as many down with him as possible. His colleagues were democrats, so will he be throwing them under the bus :?:

So long as he's throwing, I'd like to see Rahm Emanuel under the bus. Hopefully he's also more bi-partisan than you think :)

It's pretty interesting, though, how quickly they're trying to get him gone and it hasn't been shown that he has done anything criminal yet. That's the weirdest part. If they actually thought he was going to go through with selling the seat they should have let him do it and THEN bust him, but they went off half cocked and I'm not buying the - we did it to stop a crime - story because it wouldn't exactly have been a crime that couldn't be undone... unless the problem is who he would have committed the crime with and THAT person would have faced consequences too.

On this topic we are in complete agreement Fluffy. And I'll reiterate the call for Rahm Emanuel to "meet the bus".

By unanimous vote 'politically unaffiliated' American media organizations have stripped former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich of his party affiliation.

The expulsion is immediate and retroactive and forbids any member of the journalism community from ever again identifying Rod Blagojevich as a member of "their party" on air or in print, under penalty of professional decertification and re-education.

What's your beef with Rahm?
