Blogging versus Apathy

Public Apathy Enables Leaders to Ignore Voters...
Great speech, but what he's saying applies on so many levels.

I especially like the allusion to the idea that you don't need to work to fix a system when you can make a new system that works. This reminds me of so many communities that have created their own currencies so they can conduct business when they can't get their hands on Dollars (or whatever the local government currency is).

Also in Alaska I recall hearing about a bunch of people who have set up what is basically a parallel government with common law courts etc. They trade among themselves in silver, there is a small fee to use the courts and criminal and contract disputes are binding before the courts with prescriptions for restitution in cases of crime (since they can't afford and don't want to run jails) and failure to comply is is punished by disallowing further participation (outlawry).

But a lot of these sorts of alternates take a lot of thinking about what is a community, how should societies be organized and in general political and economic thoughts and ideas that people don't generally get exposed to and don't really understand - though many understood them in the 30's and the 1800's and the 1700's.

Modern political thought is constrained to "liberals" and "right-wingnuts" hating on each other without understanding anything.

This is indeed a major part of the problem and one can only hope it isn't always this way.

it's a HUGE part of the problem. maybe THE whole problem

it's like these selfish idiots only care about THEIR tomorrow and are not willing to COMPROMISE and WORK with others to the benefit of all citizens.

blogging on a constant level is actually fairly difficult. Hard to have that much to say.

(I know that's off-topic... I'm just sayin...)
