OK, someone has to post it so I volunteer

Senator elect Brown (R) wins in Massachusetts!

I have to admit that I am genuinely surprised as I figured the Dem "machine" in that state would find a way to pull off a victory at the last minute. I am curious to see how both sides of the political aisle will spin this event over the next few days. While I have my opinion, I do wonder if the Democrats will sit up and take notice. If not, 2010 could prove a most interesting year for all involved. Time to step back and watch... :pint:

And he promptly pimps out his daughters.

"And as always, I rely on Gail's love and support and that of our two lovely daughters. So i want to thank Ayla and Arianna for their help as well. And just in case anyone who's watching throughout the country they're both available. No, no no. No. Only kidding"

What a smuck.

Thanks for the article. Here's the summary -- All Politics are local.

I disagree. Slate is trying to oversimplify and give (IMO) the Democrats some political cover by pointing the finger at the loser. While she certainly should have campaigned more (IMO) she didn't exactly get (apparently) a huge Democrat swell of support (Kennedy widow, Obama, Kerry, etc...) until it was too late because (IMO) everyone took for granted the state's political heritage and just assumed it was a safe blue state, especially considering who she was selected to replace. Even some Democrats are starting to call this what it is:

There are as many articles advocating this election was not simply local as there are those calling it such. Such are the pundits trying to spin today...

Don't misunderstand me, at some level all elections (politics) are local but this time I do not agree that the outcome can be so simply "explained away". While the Republicans have much to (re)learn if they hope to regain their status in the Congress, the Democrats will be signing their own political death warrant if they don't take notice of what just happened.

Just my two cents worth.

He may be "purple" but I regard him as better than his defeated blue opponent. I view his election as a step in the (overall) better direction. :)
