Buffet and Republicans to pay down debt?

Political posturing by the robber baron.

Don't worry. I doubt we'll see any of those Republicans calling his bluff. Always better to yell "posturing" and keep your money.

Why is he limiting his offer only to congressional republicans? Political posturing by a robber baron.

@Red, Of course the political posturing could be seen in the other direction. The Tea Party has called to get rid of all this debt. NOW is their chance to pay off a good portion at 1/2 price, because they'll get matching funds to do it.

The worst thing that can happen is we'll end up in our current position and nothing gets done. So I encourage the Tea Party to put their money where their mouth is.

the truth is none of these fake republicans want to get rid of 'debt'.
they just want to rip people off and get rich

i had two insurance policies when i went into combat. a regular one that i had thru my employer and my sgli, servicemembers group life insurance. the beneficiary of my military death was the "national debt reduction fund".. put up or shut up... lol

Why doesn't he just pay the $1B he owes the IRS in back taxes instead?

There is no political posturing in actually paying what he owes.

We are spending a $1.2T in new debt this year and he is offering to match how much again? Nice smokescreen for the public to talk about when it's all far too late and too little. Guess if the public knew what is about to happen, they would be demanding Buffet's head.

The public is far too asleep in pop culture to know or care what is about to happen. A small percentage of the right knows what is going on and what will happen in the next couple years. I'd put the over-under somewhere about May 2013 for Marshall Law under King Obama.

If he is elected of course, which I am starting to suspect he might. The public is lulled into thinking Obama fixed everything since the DOW has gone up recently and gas is ONLY $3 - $4. This charade will go on through the election and shortly thereafter the bottom will fall out.

Doesn't really matter though. More or less the same if anyone other than Ron Paul is elected. Most of the Republican candidates are establishment and corrupt or corruptible. Mitt Romney for small business? Lord have mercy!

Don't know if the American public will put up with him by Nov.

Why don't the congressional Republicans call his bluff - put up some real coin, cost Buffet some serious coin and then lord it over the Democrats showing that Republicans are willing to step up and put in their share but the Dems aren't.

You know they couldn't do that though, because they hate to part with money.

Last time I checked Congressional Republicans are not ranked in the top 3 richest people in the world. Ideally I agree but in practice it wouldn't do much. How much could they cobble together? A few million? That is pocket change to the robber baron.

Not the top three in the world, but not many of them are poor. They are 1 percenters. (Actually more like 0.01%)
Top 50 in Congress.

7 of the top 10 are democrat. My point still stands, extend to all of Congress if this is not political posturing. The democrats are certainly not less corrupt than the republicans.

My point still stands. Call his bluff and then point at the Dems and thus expose it as political posturing but put some skin in the game so the other side can't just yell "posturing" back at you - (which refusing to put up is - just posturing).
