Bush denounces 'dungeon' of Cuba

Sorry Fluffy, can't go with you there. Guantanamo may have issues, but it is terrorists being held there. Cuba is notorious for brutality of imprisoned political dissidents.

We don't know they are terrorists. We do know that some tribes turned in other tribes. Also, they were given bribes to find terrorists and they were used to lie about others. Are there a couple terrorists in there? Likely. The majority? Unlikely.

The US actions don't excuse Cuba's actions or vice versa. Both have some very serious problems.

We already know that quite a few folks that have been held and tortured there have since been released. We also know that they are being held contrary to the Geneva conventions and international law. We know that they are treated in contravention of international law. We know that Guantanamo is a huge stain on America's reputation. It does not escape the rest of the world that the USA has lost the moral high ground.

I forgot where you live, for a second there. Of course you have a very different view of Cuba because of the mafia guys that Castro kicked out. Of course they own your government now and they still want their casinos back. You'd like to help them do it and you don't care how many Cubans or Americans get hurt to help it happen (well, you probably would disagree with that if you knew that's what you are really supporting). Of course, if you wanted to help the people of Cuba, you'd work to lift the embargo - though you wouldn't get far. The embargo is there to break the people of Cuba until they are willing to accept US domination once more. Well, you haven't hurt them enough yet. They'd still rather be Cubans than slaves of the US oligarchs.

Just look at the shafting you are currently getting from your overlords in "the land of the free". You think anyone in their right minds wants to import that kind of freedom?

Oh, FFS, have you any idea how ridiculous you sound? Like Britney Spears, telling us all we should just trust everything the president says.
Terrorists?
Yeah, that's why they were all tried and convicted in regular courts of law, isn't it? Do you believe everything your told?

But, but, but this behaviour is acceptable - they're terrists, remember?

But it appears to have escaped Jim.

this is why I'm ashamed to be an american

The EU is quick to step in.

It's probably not the recent oil announcement as the political process generally moves too slow to respond within days (mind you, we don't know how long the Cubans have known before they announced). It's probably just to annoy the Bushes. :)

Though it does show that the US doesn't get to call the shots much these days even in their own hemisphere.
