Liberals At Work: California Just Legalized Child Prostitution

This is absolutely astounding. The liberal numbnuts who run the State of California just decriminalized child prostitution. There is no misinterpretation of what they’ve done here. It is no longer illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to engage in prostitution or to solicit money for sex. Like I said, kids in California are now able to legally work as prostitutes.

CBS Sacramento reports that space cadet Governor Jerry Brown signed SB1322 into law on Tuesday. Among other things, this bill exempts minors from the current California prostitution laws. In other words, a person under the age of 18 can no longer be arrested for violating prostitution laws that apply to adults.

I was thinking that maybe the news was reporting this wrong or perhaps they were leaving some stuff out that makes this sound less terrible than it is, but I read the actual wording of the bill and this is what is says:

"Existing law makes it a crime to solicit or engage in any act of prostitution. Existing law makes it a crime to loiter in any public place with the intent to commit prostitution. This bill would make the above provisions inapplicable to a child under 18 years of age who is alleged to have engaged in conduct that would, if committed by an adult, violate the above provisions."

I see tourism increasing!!

Actually I can understand the logic - making it so kids can't be arrested for these activities makes it safer for them to seek out the help of police if they are working as prostitutes under duress - i.e. now you can go to the police and it's the pimp that's in trouble, not you.

Really they should just legalise it across the board and let commercial law settle any disputes that arise.

Hrm... Probably legal for the kids. Still just as illegal for anyone who takes them up on the offer, though.

From just the quote, (I haven't read the law in its entirety) it looks like it could use some more revision and clarity for cases like the above.

But, of course, as Fluffy says, the intention of it is that in most cases of prostitution under age 18, the prostitute is likely a victim of kidnap, rape, coercion. This gives them a chance to come forward without being arrested, themselves. That way maybe we can get some more people to come forward and turn in the pimps and trafficking rings truly responsible for taking advantage of these children who, through whatever reason (ran away, abandoned, kidnapped) ended up in a bad situation.

It is still very much illegal to conspire to form a criminal enterprise, to operate a business without the necessary licenses and certifications as well as to evade paying mandatory local and federal taxes, and so on.

FluffyMcDeath and ilwrath did a good job explaining what the motives for the changes were. Despite this, there continue to be plenty of legal options for going after people who operate illegal prostitution rings even if they are between the ages of 16 and 18. Anybody who claims otherwise is either willingly or unwillingly participating in politically motivated fearmongering.

The same way they got Capone.

CA Law Enforcement Officer: Yes, California DID Just Legalize Child Prostitution

As a California law enforcement officer, I have dedicated my life to helping those who can’t help themselves, and so child prostitution debates strike a nerve with me. This is not just a political debate for my colleagues and me. This is what we dedicate our lives to. I can say with full confidence that California has implemented a harmful policy that will cause further exploitation of our state’s most vulnerable children.

California SB 1322 “exempts persons under 18 years of age from criminal statutes regarding soliciting, engaging in, and loitering for purposes of prostitution if that minor receives money or other consideration.” Further, it “will require a law enforcement officer to refer the juvenile to a county social services agency.” Make no mistake, California: This is the legalization of child prostitution.

Well, I guess I'd just have to ask this. A 15 year old runaway has gotten herself trapped in a bad situation and is being coerced through money, drugs, whatever, into prostitution.

Is this girl someone we should be pressing criminal sexual charges against? Or is she the victim who should be protected and sent to counseling and rehab?

Is this girl was a first time offender and she was clearly doing it against her will, she'd be considered a victim regardless. I think the problem is, cops now have a hell of a lot less options combating the problem. See a 14 year old girl walking the streets looking for a John, you can't do anything. If that John turns out to be a 17 year old boy, you still have no options. It is probably even illegal to stake out and watch the girl to see what the age of the John is. Making things worse, most prostitutes don't even walk the streets any more. Child sex exploitation is going to explode, but go read up on the Democrat/pizzagate issue and this is probably what they want.

Yeah, like now the cops can't legitimately arrest her so they can't threaten her with jail if she doesn't give free samples.
