They're going to vote on Sunday. Whatever the result the powers that be have already decided not to recognize the ballot because it is illegal.

Why is it wrong for people who want to leave a union to do so? These days if a woman wishes to get out of her marriage she has a right to do so but it wasn't always that way - back in the days when a wife was considered a possession.

There were a lot of Catalans in Glasgow in the run up to the referendum and I got speaking to a couple who were telling me this was going to happen. It'll be interesting to see how it pans out if they vote for independence.

well, I saw tweets that show they voted Independence

Turnout wasn't great; somewhere around 35%.
For comparison, the Scottish referendum turnout was around 85%.
(Obviously, one of these offering a legally binding chance of independence made a difference to the figures.)

Turnouts of 35% are enough for national governments to claim legitimacy.
Indeed and that's a problem in itself.
Still, I was (and remain) in favour of Scottish independence but if there had been a yes vote with less than 50% turnout, I wouldn't have been entirely comfortable with it.

I know it's kind of off topic, but what do you think to the idea that's often put forward in light of low turnouts for voting being made mandatory?

Well, I'm a bit ambiguous towards that idea; the arguments can sound attractive but the idea of it being compulsory doesn't sit right.
