The number of children with autism in the United States continues to rise, according to a new report released Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The latest data estimate that 1 in 88 American children has some form of autism spectrum disorder. That's a 78% increase compared to a decade ago, according to the report.

When you roll your eyes about vaccines and GMO, you are doing society a grave disservice.

Well, you could just as easily substitute cell phones and HDTV for those two things, and the rises would also fit. Doesn't mean there's any causation there. Correlation does not mean causation. From all the climate arguments, I'd think you'd understand that one.

There is no causation between vaccines and autism. There are no reputable studies that have found any link. Period. And there have been a lot of independent studies in a lot of countries. I think we can put this one to bed.

GMO foods... Well, I do have problems with those for other reasons. (Namely reducing natural variety is a stupid thing to do to our crops...) But again, I'm not aware of any study that backs you up, in regards to it causing autism.

What has been proven to increase autism is the age of the parents. And, the average age people are having children at has been increasing. Personally, I'm thinking that, along with better detection, explains most of rise in autism, right there.

wow!! diagnostic methods have improved 1000 % since then and what is "defined as autism spectrum disorder" contains a good deal of overlap with other medical conditions tho autism diagnosis is seized upon, not much "news value" in this one...

@Red,
Correlation is not causation. iWrath did a good job detailing things. One thing he didn't list is in the last decade the medical definition of Autism has been changed. For example, Aspberger's is now included in the Autism spectrum. It used to be kept seperate. Also, professionals have worked hard at improving diagnosis. Now, while these don't explain all reasons for the increase they likely explain part of the reason.

Also, births of autism seem to clump together. Though it's yet been discovered if it's social factors clumping the parents together. Perhaps parents are undiagnosied and have some low level autism themselves. People with similar traits often find similars in society to interact with and wrk with. Or if its something environmental in that area of the planet, pollution or background radiation for example.

The difficult part is we don't know all the underlying factors. We can't go assuming it's only environmental, as you have. We need to research both the environment and the biological until a complete discovery is made.

Ya, the vaccines have been studied to death and are by now the one thing we know is not the cause of autism. And in fact, this study only corroborates this as vaccines have been around for decades but this study says the increase is from the last decade.

let us just run with the vaccine causes autism... ... the results dont lay a proportionality respectively at any of the viable and probable causes of such a marked increase... maybe you can red?

Didn't bother to follow a single link it seems. Go ahead and sleepwalk through life.

The problem here is obviously you will believe everything your government tells you? For some reason you think the CDC would always tell you the truth? Really? You guys are smarter than that. The whole Federal Government is completely corrupt, except the CDC? Open your eyes.
The CDC isn't the only agency at work here. EVERY government has a 'CDC' that evaluates these sorts of things. Do you not believe that Germany or Russia or China would one up the USA by demonstrating this link?! They do for everything else.

Vaccine-autism proven
while the thousands of parent anecdotes are ignored for obvious reasons
Why yes proven with anecdotes. Enough said about the failed logic in the introduction... Egads.

Allopathy vaccine hoax
Egads again! Small pox is virtually non-existent in the world due to vaccines. India reached their first year of ZERO new cases through such an extensive vaccination program. We're seeing numerous outbreaks of MMR and other diseases in cells in the USA which haven't vaccinated their kids. The hoax is someone's running out of tin-foil and the government mind control rays are gonna getcha!

You didn't read very far.

In 1977, a Russian study found that adults exposed to much lower concentrations of ethylmercury than those given to American children still suffered brain damage years later. Russia banned thimerosal from children's vaccines 20 years ago, and Denmark, Austria, Japan, Great Britain and all the Scandinavian countries have since followed suit.

Oh good gods.

You know, I'll take the documented, repeatable and falsifiable evidence based approach over a bunch of anti vax loons. I know it's uncool these days, but that's just the way I role. Here, try reading some of the linked articles here to understand just why I think anti vax quackery is just that.

Oh ffs Red. That crap's been debunked for years. If you're going to go down the path of the anti vax loon, at least try to keep up, this year it's about aluminium.

Who debunked it? You are sleepwalking.

Who debunked it?

Debunked here, here, and here, for starters. That took me longer to copy and paste the links than it did to find the articles. Your move.

You are sleepwalking.

You are no better than a troofer at this stage. Still, with results like this, it's hard to understand how anyone with even basic understanding of pathogens could argue against immunisation.

Part of the problem here Red is that you just don't know what you're talking about. The wikipedia tells us that:

Concerns based on extrapolations from methylmercury caused thiomersal to be removed from U.S. childhood vaccines, starting in 1999.
Since it was obvious that irrational fear was growing and people were doing stupid things like refusing to vaccinate their kids, they decided to remove thiomersal from vaccines way back in 1999. If that was the cause then this study SHOULD have shown an immediate decrease in autism, and yet, we see the opposite. So, once again, your arguments are completely blown out of the water. What's the next boogie man you're gonna drag out of the closet for us?
