about fifteen yrs ago i was at the VA in Topeka for a couple of Dr. appointments. i had a bit of a wait so i contacted another veteran friend and we went to go hang out at the Gage Mall. It was a short few blocks away so we decided to just walk. we were both rebelling against the disillusionment of our service and sporting mid back length hair. as we approached the crossing to head across the street to the mall we were greeted by these fellers:

they called us faggots. wished aids upon us. and were "in your face frothing at the mouth" screaming so bad they were spitting. i said to Deirk "free speech is alive and well" then i laughed at them and crossed the street. when we got to the mall he asked me how i could possibly be okay with that. i told him that as i see it they get up, they go out, they rage, they go home tired, sleep and do it all over again the next day. if we did not allow them to go out in public and sport their "I'm a dumbass signs" they would be sitting at home letting their evil fester and hoarding guns. eventually that ends badly.

if someone doesnt like me. i would want to know. if this church "welcomes all" but only "some can be members" i want to know that before i give them cash to do charitable deeds. if a local business owner posts "nigger and queer" jokes on his bulletin board and says the president is a "nigger" i want to know that as well. i dont do business with that guy by the way. i live in a small town. it is church orientated and it is catholic. if u arent part of the church clique around here you really are ignored, or outright frowned upon. there is soooo much racism where i live i prefer to shop elsewhere just so i can stand looking at my neighbors. but i dont want them to not be upfront with their opinions. i like to make informed decisions. forcing men to hide their true selves invariably leads to violence.

And the discrimination that went unchecked and unchallenged before it was just peachy. "Political correctness" has nothing to do with challenging bad behaviour, even if it is used as a shield by those in the wrong.

By the same token, not challenging bigotry when it rears it's ugly head does nothing except encourage those who perpetrate and act on those views to continue.
 
I have long quoted Billy Connelly on this topic so everyone knows where I stand on this issue.
and, YES, I do want to know who the assholes are so that I CAN make informed decisions. And that includes telling them that I think they are assholes.

I certainly don't want people to be afraid of expressing their stupid ideas - they just have to learn to deal with me expressing mine
 
I understand what you guys are saying, but at the same time you're basically a bystander who also happens to be part of the ruling majority. Black people, for example, who have to put up with comparisons to monkeys and gorillas will be affected more then just by limiting where they shop or do business with. They have to also explain to their kids why they are seen as less than human. I'm surprised more black Americans aren't picking up riffles and shooting random white people, I know I would be very tempted and I certainly would find it hard to shed a tear for a racist. Here's what the president of the United States has to deal with:

This may be true. But I can also say that we here in North America are surprisingly neutered. If such a thing happened in a place like Greece, those protesters would probably end up dead real soon. I can understand why the judges would decide the way they did, they're bound by laws and constitutions. I don't understand why no one hasn't killed these mofos. I think because we're so well controlled that judges can decide the way they do. In other places they'd know they'd be condoning a blood bath.

Mike, turn off your TV once and a while:rolleyes: You really think the US is the only country with racism? You think Canada is without it? You think racism only goes one way? Be careful or I may wish blacks in Canada shoot your friends randomly without shedding a tear.

More to the point, you really got to start thinking for yourself Mike. TV only shows one side of racism and the other side is usually ignored, even when it makes news. If this was the other way around, it would make worldwide news about racism against a black bus driver. Notice how this article doesn't even mention the racist remark to the bus driver?

This hoodlum isn't to bright, calling a hispanic "Cracker". I guess some hispanics should pick up riffles and shooting random black people.
