Christopher Hitchens has died.

Wow, that's terrible. Funny, I've been reading much of his work lately and I never knew he had cancer.

Ya, I didn't always agree with him, but he certainly was good at putting together a cohesive argument. He'll be missed.

I take it Hitchens was fond of Johnnie Walker?

For a man who wrote mostly about politics, some of his most memorable articles are a lot more colloquial:
Wine Drinkers of the World, Unite

And of course, Slate has pretty much devoted their entire site to him today: Slate.com

I particularly loved his comments about religion but he was so freaking brilliant no matter what he said

Christopher Hitchens On George W. Bush: "He's unusually incurious, abnormally unintelligent, amazingly inarticulate, fantastically uncultured, extraordinarily uneducated, and apparently quite proud of all these things."

Who knows, magazines and news papers tend to pre-write obituaries for people they know are about to kick the bucket. Perhaps Hitchens wrote such a thing for the dictator and it's lost somewhere in his file cabinet (or laptop). Hmmm... Wonder if he ever wrote one for himself? He's kinda the type to do so...

You know, it's kinda weird but I was actually quite saddened by the news of his death. So much so I dusted off the old 15 Year Dalwhinnie and poured myself a good glass in his honor. And I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed it (but sorry, no cigarettes for me - although if I had a nice cigar laying around, that would have been a different story).
