Chinese are no fool. Chinese are very heavy on Solar and curbing on the coal and oil. The Chinese are more ready to get electric cars than gas cars. China government are subsidized a type of electric cars that have to do with state own electric power utility. It is practices of economic that deal with cartels, price fixing, and government-corporate partnership and it will be hard to get US companies to send electric cars into china.
There is one car company that I have brought shares for one of the reasons and it not GM.

It true back then. Don't get me wrong about China is getting commodities around the world. A part of the reason china fear of the people outbreak when there is no gas for their people. Do you remember Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, I am sure China government did not forget that. China government and Chinese people have woke up and going to change that dirty behavior.

Chinese people started using 20-25 years of gas cars, before gas cars was bicycle in China. In US, we been using gas cars over 100 years and still going. We are very hard to change while the Chinese people are not 100% attach to gas as we are. Car market between US and China is very different. China’s cities are more density than US cities by far and the behavior of using cars will be very different as well. There are two Chinese companies that are working on the EV and one of them got an upper hand by making a deal with government-corporate partnership to make EV cars so cheap that US companies will have a hard time to make it cheap unless US companies make a deal with china state own electric power utility. You said “Americans don't want those awful electric cars”. People will change their view about electric cars when they feel pain at the gas pump. GM, Nissan, Tesla Motors & other electric cars manufacture have proof there is demand for electric cars in US. In my view, you are a late boomer into electric car.

no, but alternative energy is very much a local thing and I doubt the Chinese have any interest in encouraging American companies to adapt Solar/etc energies.
the Chinese only care about selling stuff to the US

only Americans can motivate themselves to get interested in alternative energies - and if they don't they will be slaves to oil companies and oil countries. I mean even more than they are now
 
Americans have more then enough oil, oil shale, coal, natural gas to last two centuries. This energy crises is a con job by the elites that control the oil business.
 
extracting oil is too expensive. and will continue to get MORE expensive.
how many disasters like what happened in the gulf does this planet have to endure before humans get the message?
how many fisherman lost their livelihood in the gulf? I guess they don't count because they aren't part of the rich people crowd.
how many restaurants lost business? how many people are now unemployed because of that disaster.
we know at least 11 people are dead. I guess they don't matter either.

Alternative energy is a very general term and it is local and global. The Chinese does not even have to encouraging American companies to adapt Solar. There are others countries that are willing to buy from Chinese for Solar. I am just staying that Chinese are working to reduce the oil and coal intake, but dose not mean Chinese stop getting oil from other countries.

What you are talking about is the oil reserves, natural gas reserves, and coal reserves. That does not created peak oil, peak natural gas, or peak coal. What created the "peak" is the point in time when the maximum rate extract oil, coal, or natural gas is reached, after which the rate of production enters terminal decline. Let say you have a pool of water and you try to pump the water out of the pool with a straw and your family is happy that amount of water for the day. That Rate is very slow and may take few years to get all that out. 1000 people want water from your pool and you are still pumping water out of the straw. It not going any faster and demand is getting higher for that water and you still have that water reserves that will last a few year before your pool dry out. That 1000 people will be fighting for that straw. That global demand for oil output is barely catching up with the demand that people are taking even with all that reserves it have. It just a matter of time for people start feeling the pain for the price of energy then people will realize there is an energy crisis. The problem is that not all the people will feel at the same time.
