Looks like he's making a judgement based on the reality of the election. New EPA rules that are going into effect will shut down the coal industry, and coal fired electrical plants.

Lots of layoff's being announced, most are due to the cost of ObamaCare regulations that take effect January

Looks like he's playing politics and religion with people's lives. Why would he even need God's forgiveness since it is obviously God's will that coal should be in trouble - else he'd have made more of it and made it easier to get!

I don't think that electing Obama had much to do with it. Coal is losing out to CHEAPER natural gas and that's because of fracking and drill-baby-drill. The workforce is getting cut either way and it would be cut either way but blaming Obama is just politics. The profit margins must be maintained or the "investors" will get upset.

but if you want recovery then you have to have good paying jobs - but private industry doesn't want high paying jobs because they are trying to save money which means more layoffs and more people who can't consume which leads to more losses and more layoffs etc. This is the private death spiral that Keynes talked about and it's why the government is supposed to spend in a downturn - to counter the private sector death spiral. On the other side, the government is supposed to cut spending and tax more in the good times to counteract the private boom cycle. The trouble with Keynesianism is that governments don't have the discipline to carry out their job.

What the world is suffering from right now is TOO MUCH privatism. The people's money is locked up in the hands of private financiers. Nationalize the Federal Reserve and the big banks and the problem could be fixed in 18 months.

After the election Obama announced that 1.6 million acres in Utah and Wyoming would be placed off limits to drilling. Next new EPA regulations to stop drilling and fracking, and more regulations on coal ... since the election about 70 new proposed regulations per day have been posted on reguations.gov website. 6037 have been posted in last 90 days
