When the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People complained about Hattie McDaniel's portrayal of slave housekeeper Mammy in the 1939 blockbuster film "Gone with The Wind," the actress is reported to have responded, "I'd rather get paid $700 a week for playing a maid than $7 for being one."

Since I got to Norfolk/Chesapeake and discovered Cinema-Cafe and their $1 movie nights, I've seen probably 50-60 movies this year (1 or 2 per week).

I've seen almost every single new release movie since February as a matter of fact, so PLEASE believe me when I tell you that the new movie, "The Help" is -- hands down -- the best movie I have seen all year long. Best acting, best writing, best sets/costuming, just simply "best" in every category.

If at least two people don't come out of this with Oscars in their hands, I would be terribly disappointed.
