@Robert,
The new Viper is pretty. IMO better looking than the Vette. Though if I were spending north of $70K for a car I'd put the Tesla in as an option. 0-60 4 sec time like the Viper and Vette with room in the back for my kids. Yeah it's not the quite the racer of a 2 seater, but at this stage it'd fit in a bit easier. In reality I'll just have to tool around in my Triumph Spitfire.

Have you considered that VW is maybe simply more honest when reporting milage for its cars? :) It is probably a good idea to wait for independent sources confirm the number.
Always a good idea to see what reality is versus the US Gov calculations. Did you see the VW Diesel vs Hybrid Car and Driver testing? Jetta Diesel rated 30/42MPG ended up in the middle, 38MPG, in their trip. The same trip for the Jetta Hybrid rated 42/48 MPG did also obtained 38MPG. VW is not so honest on their hybrids. Since their Hybrid uses premium the fuel costs would be about a wash for me. Acceleration and passing between the two were fairly close. I guess one would select which tech they like better or on the Diesel's larger gas tank.

I agree with RLB. Forget about fuel economy. Honor the remnants of the dinosaurs and pour them into something fun to drive. :D

Meh. They both get more boring with every iteration. And in fact, they look more and more like the other. For that kind of money I'd rather the Audi RS 5 Coupe.

I think the Viper is around $120K? So Audi R8?

Ya, but is there room for a baby car seat?
Depends. Do you need the wife? ;)

..
On a side note we're supposed to get another 6-10" snow tonight. But, 70 F by Sat so perhaps winter is ending. Most years the temps even out. I hope we don't get +10 Summer to make up for -10 Winter.

Well, you can call the new Viper a lot of things, but I don't think boring is one of them. It's a sort-of a return to the roots for that car, and, personally, I really think they nailed down the essence of Viper and released a proper version of it.

As for the new 'Vette... I'll try for the most creepy chauvinistic post award here. Sure, it might have a great chassis... but it's definitely got a butterface. eeeeesh. What in the world was Chevy thinking?

The RS 5 is more a grand tourer than insane sports car, and I'd put it in a totally separate class from Vette/Viper. It's competitors look more like the Jaguar XK and Mercedes E Class.

i thought it was more a revisting of the roots of the original dream that was supposed to be the viper... earlier attempts were "clunky"... this is sports car elegance redefined.... i thought of the XK Jag too, my dad bought one when he was in the air force and brought it back with him...also a nice looking car ...
