Detriot files Chapter 9 Bankruptcy

"Turn Detroit into a national park, to show our kids the wonders of "Government Help." -- Iowahawk

They told me that if I voted for Romney, that Detroit would go bankrupt. And they were right!

Nice one, Centurion!

-EDIT-
The Monty Python gif no longer works so this'll have to do:

lol! Funny quote, though irrelevant, either way. :D

I think this die was cast back with the 800 consecutive terms of Mayor Coleman Young. Archer was pretty misguided, and Kwame Kilpatrick... Well, there's still those ongoing corruption cases... A city with 700,000 people at over $20B in debt? Yeah, that took a pretty long string of cronyism, incompetence and corruption (Young, Archer, and Kilpatrick, respectively).

Mayor Coleman Young - Democrat
Mayor Dennis Archer - Democrat
Mayor Kwame Malik Kilpatrick - Democrat
Auto Unions - Democrat
Cronyism, incompetence and corruption - Democrat

Let this be a warning.

Meh, we could have lists just like that of Republicans, too.

The real warning is beware of who you're voting for, and really look at what they're doing. Rubber-stamping any one party is a bad idea.

Red, crooks will wear whatever label they need to gain your trust. They'll like the sports teams you like, vote the way you vote, have the same religion, and they'll do it that way because stealing stuff from you is actually much less profitable than talking you into handing stuff over. If you rob a guy you can only steal everything he has. If you can get a guy to trust you, you can get him to hand over all his money and then take out a giant loan to hand over more.

police and fire to take a 10% pay cut. That's like tithing to the city. Wonder if the cost of living will oblige and drop 10% as well.

Now here's a question. If a contract is imposed on one party ... is it still a contract?

And that is on top of larger concessions they had already agreed to in the months before the emergency manager...

Now here's a question. If a contract is imposed on one party ... is it still a contract?

Well, in this case, I suppose it is, if you want to keep your job. At some point, not keeping your job would probably be an attractive alternative. The fire department is basically completely unfunded, at this point.

Wait a cotton picking minute!!!

A remake of the cult hit, directed by Jose Padilha and starring Hollywood big-hitters Samuel L. Jackson and Gary Oldman, is set to be released in 2014.

RAAAARGGGHH!!!!! :mad::madashell::madashell::madashell::mad::madashell::mad::madashell:

Feeling...the..need..to..go...postal...on..Hollywood...

But, in law I don't think a contract can be imposed and still be a contract. Even to continue working (which they wouldn't be obliged to do) is not considered acceptance of a contract if it is clearly under duress. If it were legal then slavery would be legal ... or maybe slavery IS legal.

Well, remember, Michigan is a "Right to Work" state, now. Which, as I understand it, essentially means all employment contracts are worth less than the paper they're printed on. So, either way you look at it, you're not really working under a contract, anymore. Whether you choose to continue working for what's offered is up to the individual. If you choose not to, you might be able to file for unemployment, for what that's worth, anymore.

That movie kicked f****** ass!!! There needs to be more movies like Robocop (the original). The in-movie commercials alone make it worth watching!

Couldn't agree more, Jim. One of my all time favourites. :pint:

(Hey, it's nice to agree so wholeheartedly with you on something. :D )
