It's a shame that it took so long to percolate up but even back then it was a pretty strong signal that someone had high confidence of a downgrade and with plenty of lead time. It must be connected with someone and with all the reporting requirements these days you'd think it would be hard to hide who was behind it - but apparently not so.
I have NO idea what I'm really doing, but I installed the SSL cert on whyzzat.com, generated a secret key, then set up image and link proxies.
Hopefully the site now directs to https:// properly, doesn't generate any cookie errors, and is generally a better, more secure environment...
