West Palm Beach mayor: Ban new convenience stores on Clematis
"I don't want a convenience store. That's not my vision of Clematis Street," Muoio said. But with the rules currently in place, " we can't do anything about that," she said.
But that could change Monday, when the commission is set to consider a moratorium. Commissioner Kimberly Mitchell, who had opposed the idea, agreed to it after city staff reduced the span of the proposed moratorium from three months to two.
But Mitchell continues to oppose Muoio's desire for a permanent ban.
After Muoio said convenience stores aren't "a wanted business per se," Mitchell responded: "That's a matter of taste. The private sector has a right to open up an establishment that's legal, and people who live and work in downtown have a right to have an opportunity to (shop there)."
