Does advocacy help at all anymore in retro markets trying to grow?

I am thinking for the most part, no. I think advocacy mainly leads to false expectations and bitterness in the long term. I don't think you get advocacy anymore in most retro markets such as C64, Atari etc. You do still get it in OS4 and to a lesser extend AROS, MorphOS and probably others.

Is it positive, negative or neither?
