I wish I had read this earlier, I would have warned you about Gibson's and Dreamland. Both places have come from good people, but neither place in Huntsville should be allowed to use the names that they do.
All of the Gibson's in Huntsville are family members of Big Bob.....and they are all living off of his name. I wouldn't eat at any of them if they GAVE it to me for FREE
Dreamland is a JOKE !! The original in Tuscaloosa is great, the one in Birmingham is OK, the one in Huntsville is a travesty
.

I dunno. I've only been to the one in Huntsville a few times and my experience was pretty good. Is the original that much better :?:

Sadly, yes. The original is, or at least used to be the bomb.. The food here in Huntsville isn't bad per se, but the owner of this one has gone all sports-bar and the food, the menu, and the atmosphere have suffered accordingly. Unfortunately Huntsville has such a snobby clientele that they would never have tolerated the original place, even though it's much, much better.

Jim,

The original in "T-town" is "the bomb" if you like pork ribs. "Big Daddy" knew a good thing and earned Dreamland's original reputation thanks in part to John Maddon back in the day. When the family sold the name to franchise the food shortly before "Big Daddy's" death it was inevitable that short cuts would be made. With respect to the other stores, Huntsville has drifted the farthest from the original menu. None the less, I like the food there although there is better in the area. I disagree with the original comment regarding the Gibson's spin offs. The three "relatives" in Huntsville do vary from the original in Decatur but I find both the location on Bob Wallace and Whitesburg to be quite tasty. :-)

I don't care much for the one on the Parkway... the few times I have been there, the spare ribs have had more grease than meat.

For everyone else, the BBQ in question is typical Southern fare, wet BBQ (sauce) vs dry-rub. Still I am a BBQ junkie. :-D

Regards,
