Microsoft Xbox One - $500. Some compelling titles the first year, including Halo 2014. Others are a new Panzer Dragoon,Killer Instinct, and Titanfall. Redesigned Xbox 360, looks like a baby Xbox One. Xbox Live Points are dead. (Yeah!) Those of you that like social gaming, Microsoft will use Twitch, to play game streams and recordings.

Mad Catz said they'll have a Linux gaming system, too.

Sony - later today. I suspect no matter the price before it'll be the same as Microsoft's.

Yeah... $499 is a bit higher than I was expecting for the launch price. I think I was predicting the $400 or so launch point. :/

I was not at all expecting the announcement of Live points being dead. I wonder what made them end that lucrative market? Does this mean they will now "require" my credit card to be on file? If so, major boo on them. I don't particularly want my credit card linked to my gaming profile.

November 2013 launch. 15 launch titles. The latest volley served. Your ball, Sony.

PS: Mad Catz launching a Linux gaming system? I hadn't heard that one... Oh gawd... That'll set Linux gaming back at least another 5 years, as that turd will surely end up in every Best Buy and Gamestop. XD

$499 fair. I don't think it's a great deal, but not a bad one either. Compare that to the 2006 360 @ $399 or the 2007 PS3 at $599 or the 32GB WiiU at $350.

Glad to see Live Points are dead. I can't see Microsoft making a whole lot off Live Points. $1/person perhaps in unused points? With the costs of running such a bank it probably eats it up. It may mean you need to link your Credit Card. At present you can link Live to your Credit Card. You can also get a refillable Credit Card and use that. When the Xbox switched to the Xbox 360, Target, dumped their Xbox Gold Subscription cards. I guess they didn't want to have the non-360 name out there. I stocked up and paid about 1/2 the subscription fee for a few years. I suspect Microsoft will have to convert Points to monies on account somehow? So perhaps there will be good deals to be had.

Mad Catz Android Project M.O.J.O. console Supposedly it'll be Nvidia4. And I'm with you, not excited to see their name on anything. Games come from Google Play. It'll stream games over a WiFi network to devices. .... I'd rather see Apple to do something in this arena instead. AppleTV could make a nice little 'sleeper' gaming console.

PS4 was revealed. It's a square slab. Kind of looks like the 2 consoles are cousins. Lots of compelling games as well. Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, Elder Scrolls Online, Infamous. And a $399 price point. Wow!

Compared to Microsoft that price point is compelling. We know Microsoft has large cash reserves, they can afford to lower their price. I think they'll be having a hard time if they don't.

Sorta. Though the PS4 looks a bit like it is going for people remembering the PS2 look. Pictured on sitting on end, two vertical slabs with a horizontal band. I'm going to guess this is on purpose, as everyone loved the PS2. It dominated that generation. A subtle nod toward it, and away from the weird slopey surfaces of the PS3.

Yeah, really. The announced the $100 cheaper price point is pretty huge. Especially in this economy. And they also announced that games you buy on a plastic disc are yours to sell, trade, loan, etc. Well played, Sony. Well played, indeed.

Yeah, I agree. It looks like they will have to do that, most likely... Though PS4's launch date is only "later this year" which I would take as code for "Oh crap, how quickly can we slap this together??" MS may be able to launch at $499, snag the faithful for an extra Benjamin, and then do a competitive price cut when the PS4 launches.

Sony wants to sell more for less? Great news for the consumer!

Btw, the PS3 was also designed to stand vertically. That's how I used to position it until I had to relocate it for unrelated reasons.

Did they announce any Naughty Dog titles?

Yeah Microsoft is empowering the company's to make that decision. I think most will decide to not limit the used games market, but who knows.

The other thing Sony did say is that online multiplayer games come only through the Playstation Plus account. So they'll be charging a monthly or yearly online fee for what was once the free head-head on the PS3. https://twitter.com/PlayStation/statuses/344284183893520386 Netflix, for example, will still be no charge from Sony.

I believe Sony will be late Oct and Microsoft in early Nov. The question always remains is how large of shipments will these be and to what nations. The USA is likely to get both. Europe has typically been delayed.

Sony says 3rd parties can enforce DRM There's not much different from Microsoft here. If 3rd parties (say EA) want a one buy / one use model they can do it on the PS3 as well.

New Kinect experience Makes it sound more immersive and natural. That'd be a good thing. I think the future is towards the more Natural User Interface. Where the computers learn from us, instead of us from them. They talk about touching the side of your head to activate the X-Ray vision. It made me think of an X-Men game. It'd be fun to be Wolverine, hack and slashing, or using Scott's optic blasts. (Of course playing Leech would be no fun)
