we got em all over the I 25 corridor and i see one of my new faves not on the list... dairy just outside of walsenburg... im lucky in the fresh food regard because this locale is pretty thick with the fruits and vegetables farms... ill actually be able to can quite a bit because the prices are so low... 5 ears of sweet corn for a dollar, cucumbers are the same... 5 lb seedless watermelons 3$...

yeah, no surprise there, unfortunately.

one of my mother's friends (who she met at one of the jobs she had years ago) is now on food stamps. And it's not because (as the gop would LOVE to characterize such people) a "lazy bun".
On the contrary, this women has worked all her life, supporting various members of her family - even with her retirement funds! She's an wonderful, intelligent gracious women.

well, over the years this or that family member lost a job, found a job, lost it, and so on.....

She does the best she can and doesn't go begging. Well, my mother - being a REAL Christian and not one of those fake republican ones - went food shopping today and got her friend supplies which I will be bringing to her this coming week. I won't be seeing any of those teabagging asswipes doing that

Because plants are wild doesn't make them safer or more wholesome ...

On July 30th, McCandless wrote in his journal, “EXTREMELY WEAK. FAULT OF POT[ATO] SEED. MUCH TROUBLE JUST TO STAND UP. STARVING. GREAT JEOPARDY.” Before this entry, there was nothing in the journal to suggest that he was in dire straits, although his photos show he’d grown alarmingly gaunt. After subsisting for three months on a marginal diet of squirrels, porcupines, small birds, mushrooms, roots, and berries, he’d run up a huge caloric deficit and was teetering on the brink. By adding potato seeds to the menu, he apparently made the mistake that took him down. After July 30th, his physical condition went to hell, and three weeks later he was dead.

The "Eskimo potato" (H. alpinum) or sweet vetch is a part of Fabaceae, or the pea family which includes our domestic pea. The part of Eskimo potato that is traditionally eaten is the caudex, or taproot of the plant. This was eaten raw, boiled or roasted. There is no evidence, through traditional knowledge, that they consumed the seeds of the plant. It was the root that was eaten. There is one rule when gathering food in the wilderness, if you aren't sure don't eat it. There are a lot of plants and mushrooms in Alaska that can make you sick or kill you by ingesting only small amounts of plant material or berries.

members of several genera in the pea family are commonly called "locoweeds". Certain species that grow on soils rich in selenium absorb the element and concentrate it in their tissues. When grazing animals eat the plant, it can cause neurological disorders. Members of some genera are naturally poisonous, containing locoine, a chemical that causes animals to go "loco" or "crazy" – they lose muscle control, stagger around, and collapse in death.
 
Hang on, which one is the fraud, the importing from China or the tariffs against cheap honey? $80 million doesn't sound like a lot though but perhaps it is more than the fake maple syrup that is all over the place labelled as real maple syrup, and maybe it's more than the money the rabbis charge to let companies put kosher labels on their food that says that an imaginary being approves of this food. Then there are the guys who stick a kosher label on their stuff without even giving the rabbis their cut, not to mention the cases of "not the right meat" that have been popping up and likely plenty of other unannounced substitute ingredients as economic reality would dictate.
