Archdiocese of Miami to close six schools, 2 in Broward

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/ ... 4818.story

Shrinking budgets and rising expenses have caused the Archdiocese of Miami to close six Roman Catholic elementary schools, two of them in Broward County Click here for restaurant inspection reports, the archdiocese announced today.

When classes end for the summer, St. Clement's school in Wilton Manors and Saint Stephen's school in Miramar will shutter their doors forever.

Archbishop John Favalora told parish priests in November that the archdiocese could not afford to financially support struggling schools, archdiocese spokeswoman Mary Ross Agosta said. Over the past five years, the archdiocese has pumped about $10 million into schools that needed help paying the bills, she said.

No altar boy jokes.

I wonder what the economy is doing to those "If you love Jesus he'll shower you with money" churches?

I have NO problem with the closing of greed-powered youth indoctrination centers.

Is this down to the economy too?

One of two Florida priests accused of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from their church pleaded guilty Wednesday, the same day jury selection was set to begin in the case.
The Rev. John Skehan, 81, pleaded guilty to bilking parishioners at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Delray Beach for years. Skehan, who had been at the church 40 years, had been accused of taking $370,000 between 2001 and 2006, the timeframe covered by the statute of limitations. Church auditors, however, believe the figure stolen over the years was in the millions.
