In past few decades, the U.S. Air Force has spent untold billions researching and developing a family of stealth fighter jets that are supposed to be generations ahead of any dogfighters in the sky.

But after building more than 170 F-22 Raptors and a handful of F-35 Joint Strike Fighters, not a single one is available for service. The Air Force currently has zero flyable stealth fighters. None.

From Wired.

Tbh I was thinking along the exact same lines when I read it. I was tempted to put "good to know our money is being spent wisely" but I think yours works just as well if not better.

The F35 mentioned in the article is the same jet the Navy are planning for those two new carriers... They should be ready for service about 10 years after the carriers are completed.

And my money. Harper has a serious hard-on for buying broken American junk.

Harper has a serious hardon for buying broken junk from a number of countries. Remember the uboats you bought from us a couple of years back?

The follow on to the F-22 won't have to worry about pesky O2 generations systems. ;)

They've been saying for that they'll replace it all with autonomous drones for decades.

And given the likely cost of developing something that is even half arsed, it'll be a long, long time in coming.
