Even is they got their weed legally due to chronic illness.

Then came a one-two punch.
On October 5, the IRS ruled that one of the largest California dispensaries, Harborside Health Center, owed $2.5 million in taxes because federal law precluded standard deductions for businesses engaging in illegal activity.
In other words, Obama was not only blowing off state laws. He was declaring that legal businesses were now nothing more than criminal rackets. And he was carving away every tool they needed to function.
Harborside's owner said he'd go out of business if the IRS didn't reverse course. Dispensaries nationwide saw it as a crippling decision.
Obama was seemingly intent on killing an entire industry — in the middle of a depression, no less. Left unexplained was why, especially since he was giving the finger to voters in 16 states just a year before he would face them in his own reelection.

Absurd that it's illegal anyway.

ummm buddy? I know you hate Obama, and I also know you're the first to post and believe anything negative about him but this has nothing to do with Obama directly. This is the IRS, which itself is an illegal group, but I digress.

The fact is that Marijuana has always been illegal under FEDERAL law, hence you've got a group already violating it and claiming tax exemption for selling illegal narcotics by trying to claim medical sales, which doesn't trump "illegal".

@Wayne
You should read the article, it starts out with this title.

Obama's War on Weed Represents a Strange About-Face on Medical Marijuana

...and continues like this.

The new federal crackdown on medical marijuana announced October 7 by the four California U.S. Attorneys sent chills throughout the industry. It was a stunning reversal by the Obama administration.
Only two years ago, Deputy U.S. Attorney General David Ogden wrote his infamous "Ogden Memo," announcing that the feds wouldn't bother businesses in compliance with their own state laws.

and

Marijuana supporters figured Obama would call off the attack. In 2006, he told an audience of magazine editors: "When I was a kid, I inhaled frequently. That was the point."

So if you read the article you will see my point is valid. I'm no pot head, it is just breathtaking to see the lies and broken promises out of this president. Bush #1 was hounded for decades for his "Read my lips, no new taxes" statement. Now nobody including you even blinks an eye at Obama's lies. Whyzzat?

So is there a comparable, "Read my lips, no new taxes on mary j," style quote from Obama, or did you just make that bit up?

Did you read my whole post? There is the Odgen Memo, which is well documented.

So why isn't the media hounding Obama on this flipflop? Obama can change the IRS regulation with the stroke of his pen via executive order. Oh that's right, he needs the revenue.

I read both your posts and have now gone and read the entire, three page article you linked to (20 minutes I'll never get back). There is no comparable quote in any of them.
Unless you can link to one, it appears that you did indeed just make that bit up.

So why isn't the media hounding Obama on this flipflop?

Perhaps because there is no comparable, "Read my lips, no new taxes on mary j," style quote from Obama?
It looks like red was, ehm, well.... exaggerating?
(I'm happy to be corrected if there is a comparable quote but, if previous experience is anything to go by, don't hold your breath....)

Even if we were to pretend the Ogden memo was authored by Obama - which it wasn't - it still wasn't a campaign promise. In other words, he wasn't elected to make changes to drug laws. I think this is what Robert is referring to as a "Read my lips" style quote. And in that sense, Robert is quite right.

I guess Google is broken in Kanada and Glasgow?

Here he clearly states "The war on drugs is a failure" and he wants to "decriminalize marijuana".

If you want a more "read my lips" moment, just google obama taxes.

Barack Obama: "I will NOT raise taxes. Period!"

I guess Google is broken in Kanada and Glasgow?

Not that I'm aware of. Is cognition broken in Florida?

Here he clearly states "The war on drugs is a failure"

Which is obvious to anyone with eyes.

and he wants to "decriminalize marijuana".

Good on him. So do I.

However, none of this has anything to do with your claim that he had been quoted as saying he would not impose new taxes on marijuana.

If he did, produce a link. I've already said that I'm happy to be corrected and would not be in the least bit surprised if he *had* said it.

However, for every diversionary post you make, it only increases the impression that he didn't.

Taxing marijuana? How did you lose the plot so badly:confused:

?

summarising-

From your original, linked quote:
the IRS ruled that one of the largest California dispensaries, Harborside Health Center, owed $2.5 million in taxes

Then in your reply to Wayne:
Bush #1 was hounded for decades for his "Read my lips, no new taxes" statement. Now nobody including you even blinks an eye at Obama's lies.

I then ask:
is there a comparable, "Read my lips, no new taxes on mary j," style quote from Obama..

to which you respond:
Did you read my whole post?

etc.

This gave me the impression you were claiming that Obama had lied about imposing tax on marijuana.

Apparently this is not the case and I have lost the plot. Badly.

For that I apologise.

However, perhaps you could explain to me why you posted repeatedly about (and responded repeatedly to questions about) taxes in a thread about marijuana if, as you now seem to be implying, it has nothing to do with your point?

It is just a coincidence that taxes got mentioned twice. The whole article I linked to originally was much more than Obama using the IRS as a weapon. When looking for a snippet to quote, I picked that simply because of the ridiculous nature of it.

because federal law precluded standard deductions for businesses engaging in illegal activity

That is the weapon and it is ridiculous because they were operating within the law of California and after the Ogden Memo.

I used the Bush #1 famous quote as an example since it is probably the most repeated example of a president saying one thing and doing another. Vandals will probably spray paint his tomb stone with that quote after he dies.
