Explaining Socialism to a Republican

"Democratic Socialism" = two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.

Fire departments in many American cities were funded by the insurance companies who insured the building. If you bought fire insurance, a metal medallion was affixed to the front of the building, telling the responding fire department which insurance company would pay for the fire fighting.

Marcus Licinius Crassus made a large fortune in ancient Rome, running his personal Roman Fire Fighting department. When Crassus received word that a building was on fire, he would rush to the scene and purchase the doomed property along with the surrounding buildings for a modest sum, and then employ his army of 500 firefighters to destroy the burning structure before the fire spread to surrounding buildings. hence the term "fire sale"

How do you think the rich became rich? Who did they acquire the wealth from? I know the mythology is that they "made" the wealth somehow, but what would they have made on their own if there were no other people in the world? Have you seen Mitt's houses? Do you think he built those with his own hands? The rich leach from the workers. Did the slave owners pick their own cotton? Of course not - but they "made" all the money.
