Fascist America, in 10 easy steps

GWB has been out of office for 3+ years now. Time to look at the fascist currently in office.

Indeed, I thought Obama was supposed to shut down that un-American prison? What's taking him so long?

Well, turns out the President of The United States of America doesn't always tell the truth.
Who'd a thunk it?

Meet the new boss.....

Indeed, I thought Obama was supposed to shut down that un-American prison? What's taking him so long?
he tried but the fear mongers kept bitching about 'terrorists' being in prisons close up to americans. the 'what if they escape' bullshit. As if that makes any difference. There are worse criminals right now Right next to citizens and no one says BOO.
there are people in the gov with a vested interest in keeping gitmo around.

I don't really buy this. He 'd be more vocal about it if he cared that much.
he is a negotiator. it's not his style to bitch and moan.

anyway, he cared enough about closing gitmo that it was one of the first things he signed when he became President.

"When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross.” - Sinclair Lewis (1935)

What are the relative merits of the alternatives?

We'll see who gets the Republican nomination. Granted anyone running not named Ron Paul will be weak beer. I find Romney interchangeable with Obama, in which case I will vote for a 3rd party even if it is a write-in.

Negotiator? You people chose him to be president of your country! He has his duty towards you, not towards some talking heads who want their points through. The only negotiation he should do is foreign diplomatics.

If only more people did. A vote for "who is most likely to win" is more bad than just staying at home but showing up to vote "screw you" to both major parties will at least have them pondering about rising politically active discontent.

the populationist are coming... theyd like about two thirds of us gone no matter how it needs doin.....

I'm not making excuses. just explaining.
this is an educated guess on my part because I obviously don't know Obama personally.

Obama grew up surrounded by bigots, prejudice and people trying to marginalize him. Unless you have gone through that it's really quite difficult to explain the effects it has on a person. Some people react by being aggressive - some people just get depressed or obsessed with their situation. Some people react by being overachievers....

my experience at being marginalized is limited (being female), but I know how THAT feels. MY reaction is to ignore the douchebags. If I saw someone who was not going to respect me I avoided working for or near them. I cut them off. I just kept looking for people who would appreciate me.

this doesn't work in politics, btw :D You HAVE to deal with Everyone. Even people you despise.

Obama seems to have taken the "Mr Spock" approach - he tries to be the logical person in the room. Which drives the emotional people out of their minds. And he's certainly not the first who has behaved this way:

"Nothing gives one person so much advantage over another as to remain always cool and unruffled under all circumstances."
Thomas Jefferson
But I feel that Obama tries to be diplomatic because he wants to focus on the issues and not on personalities.

People can debate on whether this technique works on not but the bottom line is that America has been spinning out of control for quite a long time and bush just kicked it down even further. No matter who was President now the situation would have been bad.

frankly, I'm just glad Obama isn't running around making hand gestures and fumbling with words and embarrassing me. Things in New York are actually improving. I see stores looking for employees. I see businesses doing better. I see people shopping. I'm not claiming everything is heaven. After all, we have fascist like the koch bros paying for governors and other politicians. Fortunately, the people of Wisconsin are working hard to kick that bastard out. And it's the American people who really Run this country.

when we see morons who are against education and wish to indoctrinate children with their creationist religion and call it "science" it's US who have to speak out. We have the power. The problem is that way too many Americans simply don't use their power. That's why I'm not worried about Obama. he isn't the problem. It's time the 99% woke up (and it's seems as if many are now) and said NO to the bullshit.

Well, he doesn't seem to want to focus on the issue of people locked up without trial for over a decade.
Gitmo is possibly in the top ten of the most disgusting things your country has done in the last 50 years (maybe) and Obama appears not to give a single gram of f*ck about it.

The same thing I said about Bush aslo applies to Obama:
If you have evidence that they've committed a crime, put them on trial.
If you don't, let them go.

Anything else is completely unacceptable.

These people have been treated outrageously and Obama is continuing that.
In short, he's a callous, lying scumbag.

Not being quite as much of a scumbag as Bush does not make him a good guy.

There is a saying in Dutch, "Soft physicians make rotten wounds". Now I know there are many 'hawks' in your government who like to see themselves as the 'hard physician' but I see them more like the 'axe wielding maniac physician'. There's also the physician who wants to take responsibility, who tries to cure. I just don't see Obama like the latter. As a president it is within his power to steer the country towards a human rights respecting country. If he can't do it, who can? Who can knock down that modern-day Bastille? He doesn't have to make a right kerfuffle, he just need to sign. It's for him just a little drop of ink to restore the very fundaments your nation has been founded upon.

I see that the discussion about Obama's functioning has been hijacked by conservative extremists.
