Interesting "alliance" here. Fiat gets 35% of Chrysler from Cereberus, manufacturing and distribution in North America, Chrysler gets small car platforms and fuel efficient engines.
Interestingly, one of the platforms is likely to be the SCCS platform (also known as Gamma) which was co-developed by Fiat and GM. GM Europe uses this for the Corsa and Tigra. Fiat uses it for the Grande Punto and the Alfa Romeo MiTo.
Also the GM-Fiat multijet diesel engines, also used in Cadillacs, Saabs and Vauxhall/Opels.
There is no cash involved, but Chrysler does get some excellent technology. Meanwhile it seems that Fiat will be using spare capacity in Chrysler's factories to build Fiat 500s and relaunch Alfa Romeo in North America - what looks like the real driver behind this.
