Haven't looked at the FT for a while. It's behind a pay wall but you can click through a survey question to get to this story. I was very interested to see how much the explore the nuances of what is going on and they are saying things that I am not used to reading in the main stream. It's almost as if the FT caters more to people who are trying to make money in the world rather than play politics.

I have a copy of this article, but you should be able to click through the survey. It's a good and pretty short read.

Outside help behind rebel advances in Aleppo

This must be a Canada (and possibly US) thing. I saw no survey, just a request to pay up :-)

Ah well, I can't get there now either, without registering. Apparently I'm out of "free reads".

Still, someone seems to have clipped the text and posted it.

couldn't read it before either but from that link:

“The Americans, of course, knew what was going on. They ignored it to put some pressure back on Russia and Iran,” said a western diplomat in contact with the opposition.

This is much as thought and, as you say, ignored by mainstream media.

I also noted in today's UK news a young woman was killed in Russian air strike.
The UK news media told us the young woman left the UK to join Islamic State.
The same UK news media also told us that Russia wasn't actually bombing Islamic State.

Depressingly, almost noone seems to notice this never-ending propaganda roundabout.
