Well, I was off line for about 5 hours because we had a thunder and lightening storm that deluged us with water. What happened - and I only know a little bit since I just got back on line - was this deluge caused at least two trees to fall into their respective roads and take down a few lines on the way down.
About 17,000 customers on Long Island was without power. Including yours truly.
The lack of electricity was only an issue because we really needed power for the water pump that sits at the entrance to the basement. It's there to prevent water from getting into the basement when a huge amount of water comes out of the sky at MACH ten. That's because the "drain" at this place is just basically dirt. if there's too much water mother earth can't absorb it fast enough so I turn on the pump to redirect the water elsewhere.
So, just as we are turning on this pump, guess what? yup, the power goes away.
So, we have to start finding containers and throwing the water out like it was the titanic or something. Oh, yeah, fun fun fun. Fortunately it didn't last too long. The rain that is.
the power went out about 3:19 PM Eastern Time
At 7:15PM these guys from the Energy CO come by and reconnoiter.
See that "bucket" near the top of the pole? that got busted during this storm. Well, something happened and we ain't gots no juice.
The "bucket" (or generator) needs to be replaced.
The guys position their trucks to get up there
removing the broken thing
dropping the bad thing down to the truck (right side of image).
He then lifts a replacement.
moving back up to the wires and spends time reattaching everything. And, btw, it was drizzling.
The power cam back on about 8:42pm.
yeah!
I really respect those guys. You have to be very knowledgeable to do this sort of work. And very meticulous. Another reason I love "socialism".
