169 year low temperature record broken

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/browar ... 0801.story
South Floridians woke up Tuesday morning to temperatures hovering around the very low 40s that sometimes felt like the mid-30s because of the wind chill factor.

In Fort Lauderdale, a low temperature record of 42 degrees for Dec. 7 that had been in place for 169 years was broken, said Dan Gregoria, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Miami.

"It was at 7:24 a.m. when the temperature reached 40 degrees," Gregoria said.

I had thick ice on my windshield, it was cold for Florida and especially for early Dec.

From what I hear, the Eastern part of the continent got hammered with bad weather, yet our weather here has been pretty normal. In fact, it's quite nice.

Btw, there's no such thing as a "Florida Global Warming Report", it's just a "Florida Weather Report".

Funnily enough, I've been meaning to post some musings on climate change that I think you might like, Jim....

-EDIT-

I've put it on a thread of it's own.

it's about 35 F in NY right now.
but a nice day.

A friend of mine will be visiting his brother in Orlando and The Farmers Almanac said it would be a bit colder and rainier in FL in Dec than normal.

Update for Dec 8, 2010

More ice/frost on the car this morning.

Minus 10C here at midday.

They're forecasting above 0C for us tomorrow!!! Pretty soon people from Florida will be coming up to Winnipeg for the winter months!

What Winnipeg looked like yesterday:

Pretty Winnipeg scene! I love weather like that.

By about Oct the US as a whole was sitting at about the 4th warmest year. Clearly two days in Flordia dropped us to the bottom. :whack:

Seriously do people not get that a day or two, or even month, of a local cooling event is only a minor blip on a climate measure, consistenting of multiple points in every nation throughout the year? Everytime it's cold I now here someone claim 'Where's our Global Warming'.. I want to kick them in the shin.

Recently their was a report that the US is producing the lowest amount of native STEM college grads in decades. It's very clear people failed out at statistics and perhaps geography.

Err, and where are these readings coming from?

Oh, right...

When certain conditions get you funding, you get those conditions no matter what.

I'd agree the system has imperfections, afterall people are involved and we're inheritently flawed. These items are the exception not the norm. What results is NASA or HadCRUT drops such a station from their data. The next step is for the doubters to cry foul and cherry picking. Of course they rarely prove why the change was cherry picking. They make the charge, declare victory and sit on their barcalounger.

Of course we'll just ignore that the satellitte temps are going up a similar amount to the land based temps. So there are ways to error check this stuff.
