Forgiveness makes people happy

The happiest people spend the least time alone. They pursue personal growth and intimacy; they judge themselves by their own yardsticks, never against what others do or have.

"Materialism is toxic for happiness," says University of Illinois psychologist Ed Diener. Even rich materialists aren't as happy as those who care less about getting and spending.
I'm very happy and it's really because I engage my intellect to be creative. I don't care about accumulating money or things that are used to Show Off in public.

and isn't caring about others just what a human being is supposed to do? It's civilized.
I feel sorry for the very rich - they are so isolated from others because they simply can not relate to most of us. And their expensive toys are barriers to communication.

People are naturally cooperative - Interesting they have to study this. I think we can see the natural instict to organize into societies would dictate this. But, good for those Libertarians to know they are simply wrong on the human condition.

There was an excellent show on the radio about this and about the evolution of morality on CBC as I was driving home tonight. The show is called Ideas and covers lots of interesting topics but this one was on the science of morality. There should be a link on that page to download the show as a free podcast. If it's gone by the time you read this it should still be available on iTunes.
