Former Shell Oil President John Hofmeister said Sunday that new production of oil mainly takes place on private land, because federal land permits have been “dramatically reduced in the last several years.”
“Where the land is commonly held, actually, that’s only on federal land, and as I said, federal land permits have been reduced dramatically in the last several years. Private land – mineral rights to private land – are in many states the ownership of the land owner, not the federal government, not the people, but the land owner. And where those private rights exist, that’s mainly where new production is taking place,” he said.

No, it means that Obama is being deceitful in claiming it's his administration that is generating all the additional domestic oil production in the US. If you take a look at the numbers, oil production from Federal lands has dropped 40% over the past several years. As well only half of the oil drilling permits are being issued vs Bush 43's numbers.

Come on. He took over Libya's oil, he's working on taking over Uganda's oil and he's working on trying to take over Iran's oil. Domestic oil is the oil you keep until everyone else's oil is gone.

It means Obama is a better capitalist than Bush. He's encouraged private companies to make use of private resources to seek private gain. Isn't this what capitalism is all about? Private companies profiting off the government resources is a step closer to fascism than it is towards capitalism.

That is because the US government owns something like 40% of all the land in western states and all the off shore. Point still stands, Obama is a disaster for oil production and he is being deceptive (aka lying) about being responsible for the oil being produced, on private or state own lands.
