France

It's part of the French culture pretty much since 1358, with the Jacquerie revolt.
Mainly because at least as long, the French upper class can be aptly described as "pompous twats", if you pardon my French.

Well, I think that probably goes for the upper class in pretty much any country these days. Here in the US, Hollywood celebrities and politicians look down their nose at everyone in "Flyover Country". It's also become the norm that a candidate winning an election to a public office is the equivalent to winning the lottery many times over. Take someone like the "Socialist" Bernie Sanders. He has never worked a day in his life in a real job, yet his net worth is over $30M and he has 5+ Mansions. Much of the governing in Washington has been to help themselves and their wealthy donors, with either complete disregard for the masses, or disdain towards them. Celebrities have their heads so far up their own asses, they probably see their tonsils.

The default love of the celebrity and wealthy people here in the US is mostly gone. People are starting to really see them for who they are. Only a (hopefully small) portion of Democrat voters still worship them and take marching orders from them.

Yet people vote for the very worst of them. One who inherited daddy's fortune and scammed a lot of seriously hard working entrepeneurs so these honest men went out of business.
It's much like Rome at the downfall of the republic, it was bound to happen, it was gone wrong a long time before it actually happened, when the elite undermined the democracy and slaves were doing work normally the Romans would do. I really see Trump as a modern day Crassus.

I think you have Trump wrong. I didn't like the celebrity side to him, but business-wise he'd fine. Before he ran for president or even because a reality TV celebrity, the every day person on the streets of NY loved Trump. I'm talking about blue collar people like Taxi Drivers and construction workers. That's kind of unusual for a Billionaire. It is also the blue collar workers who voted him in. He's even more popular now than before he was elected. His policies are improving the lives of blue collar workers. He's not part of the "Elites" club who mock him when he improves the lives of workers.

Don't believe most of what you see on CNN International.

US unemployment rate falls to lowest level since 1969

US figures have shown the lowest jobless rate since the year of the first moon landings, keeping the world’s largest economy on course for further interest rate rises.

Companies will be forced to raise salaries to entice the best workers. UNLESS the workforce is being flooded with countless illegal aliens, something his opponents are for and Trump is against. Again, him looking out for the working class.

Its kind of funny. The Dems used to be the party who claimed to be for the working class. They don't even pretend to be that any longer. They are openly the party for big business.

That's why I compare him with Crassus. Crassus was crazy rich, and the Roman elite feared him extremely. He was going to get power and not let go. No one will let go of power once in reach. In a turn of events, he needed people like Caesar and Clodius, to weaken the establishment further.

I don't watch CNN, I'm Dutch, and I get to see local news, and I know Trump duped a ship builder called Amels in Makkum for almost half a billion by just not paying for his superyacht back in 1989. This ship builder went bankrupt because of this.

I know you are Dutch, but CNN International have a long reach. Good that you don't watch it.

Riots in Paris

It was obvious from a single glance that these weren’t Parisians, but rural people who couldn’t afford to buy expensive Parisian clothes or get chic haircuts. I instantly understood why Macron rubs them the wrong way. They looked worn out; their hands and faces were lined; they were mainly in late middle-age. They seemed to be decent, respectable, weary people who had worked hard all their lives, paid their taxes, and played by the rules.

I concluded they were just what they were advertised to be: family men and women who couldn’t make ends meet and who were tired of Macron’s attitude. Why this protest, why now, I asked? The fuel tax was just the straw that broke the camel’s back, they said; it made the difference between “able to make ends meet, barely,” and “not able to make ends meet.” It had just been getting steadily worse every year since the economic crisis began. They had run out of hope.

People at the Charles de Gaulle Étoile saw something else entirely. There, the police were physically overwhelmed by about 5,000 Gilets Jaunes who had come explicitly prepared to do violence.

This also applies heavily to the Globalism thread. Good segment, very revealing.

France's Yellow Vest Protesters Angered By Notre Dame Restoration

In a battle with police on Saturday, the Yellow Vest protestors "set fire to trash cans, scooters and a car and pelted police with rocks to draw attention anew to their 23rd weekend of protest," Fox News reports.

The Yellow Vest protestors are angered over the fact that millions poured in from around the world to rebuild the Notre Dame cathedral — a cultural icon of France that has existed for nearly a millennia — while they protest income inequality.

Charming bunch:
Paris hospital attacked by May Day protesters, say officials
Staff say they stopped attempt to enter intensive care, but intruders smashed computers

French officials say medical staff narrowly averted “a catastrophe” after May Day demonstrators reportedly stormed a Paris hospital and attempted to force their way into an intensive care unit.

About 50 protesters – some wearing gilets jaunes (yellow vests) and others with masks – entered the hospital after the admission of a riot police officer who was hit in the face by a paving stone towards the end of a traditional union-led 1 May march.

Staff at the Pitié Salpêtrière hospital said they stopped a group of protesters entering the emergency ward, but other intruders smashed computers and damaged equipment.

Police are holding 30 people in custody in connection with events at the hospital.

trump has been doing these kinds of shenanigans for decades. People in New York and New Jersey (especially Atlantic city) hate his guts for the con man he is. Ripping off contractors, screwing investors..... the list is long.
